Gwreck Mar 30 2015 06:29 AM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
The only thing I see really keeping the Mets from hitting 1000 this year is the extremely low number of new faces on the opening day roster. I see Cuddyer, Mayberry and maybe 2 relievers as the only new Mets at the start of the year.

Wow, good catch. Thanks.

Frayed Knot Mar 30 2015 06:45 AM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
Via a quick glance, it looks like you have to go back to 1991 to find a season [u:1i12rvrd]Without[/u:1i12rvrd] at least 16 new players.

Benjamin Grimm Mar 30 2015 06:56 AM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
It really amazes me how few there were in 1988.
|
Edgy MD Mar 30 2015 07:22 AM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
1988 was a lot like this year, in that the new acquisitions they were banking on were guys returning from missing all or part of the year with injuries and suspensions.

The Mets should totally lure Derek Jeter out of retirement just for one day so that he can have the honor of being the 1000th Met.

Lousy loss aside, entering with two on and none out, giving up an infield single to Alex Rodriguez, before getting Mark Teixeira on a foul pop out and whiffing Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran is... a pretty sweet way to debut.

Edgy MD May 07 2015 07:38 AM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
Buck Showalter created some SERIOUS Met count controversy last night. As Johnny Monell was in the on-deck circle and preparing to pinch-hit for deGrom, Dilson Herrera ripped a shot to left that may have been a homer or may have been a double.
|
Centerfield May 07 2015 07:39 AM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
Was that going to be Monell's big league debut? Man I hope that kid doesn't get Moonlight Grahamed.
|
Lefty Specialist May 07 2015 07:47 AM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
He already went 1 for 8 during his cup of coffee with the Giants in 2013. So it wouldn't have been his ML debut.

Nine Mets were on the 25 man roster without ever getting into an actual Mets game. These nine --Jim Bibby, Randy Bobb, Billy Cotton, Gerry Moses, Terrell Hansen, Mac Suzuki, Justin Speier, Anderson Garcia and Ruddy Lugo, are technically, not considered Mets. But if they were, then Kevin Plawecki would be the 1,000th Met. [fimg=555]https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSkGV4ZK2QoCmO8-mU__3N8L42pKPcy6tR0gxiMkbJsufZZ5YKIZg[/fimg]

What about players who were on the active 40-man roster in September but never got into a game? I'm thinking of Al Reyes, September 2008.

Edgy MD Jun 28 2015 07:19 PM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
This is fascinating. Not only is there no obvious candidate for the next Met call up, there's certainly anything but a guarantee that the Millennium Met will be a call up, drowning in trade talk as we are, there is no guarantee that the MM will be a call up.
|
Edgy MD Jun 28 2015 07:51 PM Re: Met Count, 2015 |
The Yomohama DeNa Baystars of the NBL Central League have just dashed the hopes of one candidate for the coveted title of Millennium Met, signing away the most successful of Las Vegas' left-handed relievers, Duane Below.
