Re: Met Count, 2015

The only thing I see really keeping the Mets from hitting 1000 this year is the extremely low number of new faces on the opening day roster. I see Cuddyer, Mayberry and maybe 2 relievers as the only new Mets at the start of the year.

Also, this list has Mike DeJean as debuting on December 20, 2004 (I think it should be July)

Damion Easley is listed as debuting April 30, 2007 which I think is also not right. (He was on the roster at the start of the season and wasn't on the DL, if I recall correctly)

Via a quick glance, it looks like you have to go back to 1991 to find a season [u:1i12rvrd]Without[/u:1i12rvrd] at least 16 new players.

Re: Met Count, 2015

It really amazes me how few there were in 1988.

It looks like there might be four or five new Mets in the first few days of the season: Cuddyer, Mayberry, Muno or Reynolds, and, as Gwreck said, one or two relievers. My guess is that number 1,000 will come sometime around August 1.

Re: Met Count, 2015

1988 was a lot like this year, in that the new acquisitions they were banking on were guys returning from missing all or part of the year with injuries and suspensions.

At least at the top. Whether they'll have to re-load once or twice during the season remains to be seen.

Lousy loss aside, entering with two on and none out, giving up an infield single to Alex Rodriguez, before getting Mark Teixeira on a foul pop out and whiffing Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran is... a pretty sweet way to debut.

Re: Met Count, 2015

Buck Showalter created some SERIOUS Met count controversy last night. As Johnny Monell was in the on-deck circle and preparing to pinch-hit for deGrom, Dilson Herrera ripped a shot to left that may have been a homer or may have been a double.

When it was ruled a homer, Monell retreated to the dugout, and deGrom returned to take his plate appearance. But Showalter came out to argue that Monell stepped in the batter's box in the interim, effectively becoming Met #994!

Buck lost his case, but it was dramatic for a little bit there! It's hard to conclude that Showalter doesn't have money on this thing.

Nine Mets were on the 25 man roster without ever getting into an actual Mets game. These nine --Jim Bibby, Randy Bobb, Billy Cotton, Gerry Moses, Terrell Hansen, Mac Suzuki, Justin Speier, Anderson Garcia and Ruddy Lugo, are technically, not considered Mets. But if they were, then Kevin Plawecki would be the 1,000th Met.

Re: Met Count, 2015

The Yomohama DeNa Baystars of the NBL Central League have just dashed the hopes of one candidate for the coveted title of Millennium Met, signing away the most successful of Las Vegas' left-handed relievers, Duane Below.

Duane joins a Yokohama team that has recently ended a 12 game slide that has knocked them off their perch, but they still sit only three games off the pace in the Central.

For their part, the 51s fill the void in the bullpen ably with the recently activated Jenrry Mejia, allowed to "rehab" in the minors during the final weeks of his PED suspension.
