Hatastrophe

I have two nice fitted caps, purchased on my last two trips to the Citi. One of this style, sized 7 1/4, which is tight and uncomfortable. This style, sized 7 3/8, too big. How do I fix the small one to make it more comfortable? How do I fix Mr. Met to fit a bit more snuggly? This is important, dammit. Help me fix my Mets yarmulke issues.

Fman and I have similarly sized heads. [insert joke here] It used to be that the official caps were wool, so that if you bought one that started out a little big, it would shrink to fit as you wore it. Now, the caps are practically worthless to me. I read somewhere that there is some stitching that will pop if you pull the brim (hard) away from the back of the cap for sizes that are too small. This would give it a little more room, but I've never tried it for fear of ruining the cap. I recently bought the standard blue Mets fitted cap in 7 3/8" which is roomy for my head, but I symmetrically tucked a bit of folded fabric in the back sweat lining of the cap to make it more snug. It still doesn't fit like the ones from 10 or 15 years ago, though.

I have the same situation; my ideal cap size is between two of the standard sizes. The smaller size pinches my head, and the larger size is a little too loose. What I did is I bought the larger size and pinched it a little bit in the back with a well-placed staple on the interior band. It worked surprisingly well. I had thought that would be a stopgap measure until I could ask someone who knows how to sew (like my wife or my mom) to put a couple of stitches in place of the staple, but I never had to take that step.

I have a different problem. I have huge melon, circumference wise. I'm between a 7-3/8 and 7-1/2, but the right width inevitably means too much room up top. With some hats, you can cut out and remove the inner panel in front giving it that old school, floppier shape, but I prefer adjustable bands to fitted nowadays anyway.

There are also all manner of unstructured/shallow casual hat designs out there that might suit you. Or you could go with an ACTUAL old-school Cooperstown kinda thing.
