I don't think so, Lunchy. Mets Classics from 5-17-07 is on. Mets trail 5_1 in the 9th but singles from Newhan (!!) And Gomez and a walk by Beltran has loaded them up for Endy. Dempster losing his shot on the mound.

Endy walks in a run. Here comes Ruben Gotay.

Re: XIGT, 4/3, NYM @TEX

Gotay opposite field single for an RBI takes out Dempster. Wright pinch hitting for Green. It's Wrights first career pinch hitting AB and he raps the first pitch up the middle for another run. 5-4. Delgado up.

I think the win goes to Ambiorix Burgos.

Re: XIGT, 4/3, NYM @TEX

Now on SNY, I'm watching "Covino and Rich," in which two dudes-- Covino and Rich?-- yell at each other and mug to dubstep and guitar riffs.

Y'know, instead of the sports. In which the score is now 5-0, on a series of grounders, walks and iffy-to-poor Ranger gloveplay. Recker Ks to end the threat, because he'd apparently much rather be in Las Vegas this April.

I don't recall any report of Tejada coming in overweight.

Mejia is unrecognizable with a visible neck.

just awful stuff. SNY is really wasting a channel about the Mets.

Re: XIGT, 4/3, NYM @TEX

I don't get the channel, but we should all let them know at every turn.

People talk about re-taking the city in the abstract sense, but the reality is the actual taking may well be a matter of weeks away. By some measures, it's already happened.

SNY is about to become a very hot commodity, and the same tired and empty programming is a missed opportunity at a long-term investment.

Pretty much the only thing I watch on SNY is Mets Hot Stove. Most of the other stuff that would interest me is blacked out in my area. But I think they would benefit from a smart talk show, to counter all of the dumb talk shows that they have in abundance. A Bob Costas and/or 60 Minutes kind of thing that would, in each episode, take a serious in-depth look at a local sports issue.

do those exist? even in a non-Mets sense?

The Mets are picking up. ratings will go up this season, and with it advertising and therefore budget money. Perhaps it'll lead towards something interesting.

Probably not, but who knows.

I don't watch SNY besides the games. I guess there are some things I'd tune in for, like the Mets broadcaster trivia thing that I actually missed last year, but mostly I spend so much of my free time on the Mets as it is that it's hard to add in MORE. I can't imagine i'm in the minority here. Sure, the minority of us diehards will try to tune in for a few of the specials, but is Bandwagon Barry going to?

I know people like to hate on Beer Money, but casual bar trivia is exactly the kind of thing that gets the channel kept on in bars and the like.

D-Dad enjoys Geico SportsNite, and I'll occasionally watch a Mets Yearbook or Mets Fast Forward.

Other than that, we only watch SNY during games.

HBO has their 'Real Sports' series where they examine sports-related issues in a '60 Minutes' style 3-4 topics per/hour format. Hosted by Bryant Gumbel with a staff of actual journalists, it runs about once a month or so.
And '60 Minutes' itself licenses its name to (I believe it's) Showtime for, what else?, '60 Minutes - Sports', something which I assume is along the same lines as 'Real Sports' although I don't know that I've ever seen that one.

Problem with those kinds of shows is I suspect they're expensive to create and produce and are probably beyond the budget of these local networks.
And of course the larger problem is that these networks essentially exist for just one purpose but then struggle to find enough programming to fill the 21 hours/day when the home team isn't playing, not to mention entire off-seasons.

Re: XIGT, 4/3, NYM @TEX

We had a brainstorming session back before SNY was launched, and we came up with enough cheap but deep programming to fill 24-7.

It doesn't have to be 60 Minutes.

Re: XIGT, 4/3, NYM @TEX

As I recall not all of those programming suggestions would necessarily please the team owners.
IIRC, 'CSI: Flushing' was one of the proposals. In their pilot program I believe the squad was going to seek to find the fingerprints on the Scott Kazmir trade since no one ever actually owned up to it being their idea.

Yeah, I wouldn't suggest greenlighting that one.

Re: SNY Programming (split from xIGT, 4/3)

I'd like to see that game where Matt Franco drives in the winning run in the Mets last at bat. I've heard so much about that game.
