The nu Cubs looking a lot like the aul' Cubs, falling at home to the Cards, 3-0, in an MLB opener insanely scheduled for a night game at Wrigley.

Wainwright pulled after six, but three Cardinal relievers hold Chicago hitless the rest of the way.

The Cubs suck. Several moments in that game where a better ideas and execution makes a difference. Lester not Wicked.

Here's hoping that the Cubs makeover blows up.

Hate to root whole-hog against the Padres, but here's hoping theirs does too. I mean, haven't the Braves taught anybody the folly of loading up on Uptons?

Watch the Yankees introduction. It'll give you the proper gagging to temper your enthusiasm.

Imperial March for Blue Jays. "Good guy music" (Can't remember the name of it) for the Yankees.

The Star Wars muzak is pretty funny. Big ovation for A-Roid.
No sign of Jeter yet, but I think I spotted Torre in a suit in the
dugout.

Blue Jays should be going with Dickey but otherwise heading out for a lunchtime listen in Bryant Park.

One hit thru four complete for Yanx hitters (McCann single) so we probably shouldn't tag the Jays too much for starting the wrong guy.
A 5-run 3rd for the Jays off Tanaka after he K'd three of the first four hitters he faced. But then the Jays started laying off his low splitters & sliders and it doesn't look like he trusts his reduced velocity fastballs that this partially torn elbow has forced him into. Reliever Chris Martin is now in to pitch the 5th as the Yanx consciously uncouple themselves from Tanaka after 4 innings and about 80 pitches.

Re: Baseball

That's the strangest part of it. Your dignity is lost waiting in line for two innings, just for an opportunity to relieve yourself in a manner that is a second and final assault on your dignity.

They got rid of the troughs. The problem with the bathroom lines is apparently that they didn't finish renovating all of the bathrooms in time and some of them weren't open.

My experience at The Troughs also included being shoulder-to-shoulder in a room full of angry men chanting "NEW YORK SUCKS!!!"

Re: Baseball

Three of five teams lose in the NL East, in addition to the Mets beating the Nats, Boston tore down Philly in the battle of Ben Frankly home towns, and Atlanta beats Miami, which beats the alternative, at least in theory.

San Diego's recreation starts off no better than Chicago's, as the new Padres lose 6-3 to the new spending leaders Los Angeles.

Re: Baseball!

The Mets are undefeated despite hitting .147 / .216 / .206 // .422 on the season. Opening day frequently packs the offensive punch of the first game of the World Cup, but fully 14 teams are hitting under .200, led (in a sense) by the Rangers, who are thumping to the tune of .036 /.100 / .036 // .136 after getting one-hit out the box by the Athletics Featuring Sonny Gray.

Not the way Jeff Banister wanted to start his managerial career, and I can't help but think the Mets cut the legs out from under Texas with those two games to end the exhibition season. You'll remember that Banister was home sick for the second one also.

40 years ago today, April 8, 1975, Frank Robinson becomes MLB's first black manager.
Player/manager in fact, he batted himself 2nd in the DH slot where he HR'd in his first AB off Yanqui hurler Doc Medich.

Indians beat Yanx 5-3
