Technically, Triple Happiness.
Actually, a bit more fraught than that, though, right?

This could either be the beginning of something huge, or the highpoint of the season.

August 26th

Mets 9 Phillies 4

Padres 6 Nationals 5

Astros 6 Evil Empire 2

to make the night even better, the Blue Jays are currently beating the Rangers 11-2 in the 7th inning. Make that 12-2 now.

How strange that the Yankees decided to get pissy with Carlos Gomez while he was playing like a load. Talk about ignoring best practices.

August 31:

Mets 3, Phillies 1
Cardinals 8, Nationals 5
Red Sox 4, Yankees 3

However, the Dodgers won also. I wonder if (for the time being) triple happiness should include a Dodgers loss.

Why for the time being?
I hope they lose every single game all year long, in humiliating fashion.
And then lose all their draft picks on a technicality.
The bastages.

Re: Triple Happiness, 2015

Well, I still hope the Yankees lose every game going forward. They are just less of a concern to me right now; I'd really rather not have the Mets facing Kershaw and Greinke in a short round 1 series.

Giants would be no picnic since they have shown themselves to be pretty good at winning post-season series lately.

Re: Triple Happiness, 2015

If the Mets make the postseason the competition will be tougher than what they'll have faced the last month or so of the regular season, regardless of who their opponents are. Home field advantage in the NLDS is definitely something to root for, given the Mets advantage at home this season. (Although we shouldn't forget the recent three-game sweep by the Pirates at Citi Field.)

Moving through the playoff rounds won't be an easy task. But for now, I'm mostly focused on seeing them lock down the division title.

I'll admit that I'm scared of the Mets being swept in four games in the NLCS by either the Cardinals, Pirates or Cubs.

I don't fear the Giants and their past postseason successes are (let's be honest) a bit fluky considering the quality of their teams. Even if Bumgarner pitched twice in an NLDS I would think the Mets would have the advantage.

Re: Triple Happiness, 2015

The post-season is a crapshoot. The Mets had as good a team as God will allow to exist in 1986, and they still had to BS their way through October. I'm taking it one day at a time.

Dodgers kept winning, unfortunately. I want the Blue Jays to get the division, but the one we really care about is having a better record than the Dodgers.

oe: Ooooh, Dodgers were up 7-0, now 8-5 in the 8th.

Also, Madison Bumgarner just had his perfect game vs SD broken up with two outs in the 8th.

Re: Triple Happiness, 2015

When do we swap out Washington for the Dodgers in this scenario?

Hell, the Mets are only 1.5 games behind the Cubs for record. If it's NLCS Mets v Cubs that could matter right? (Wikipedia says it's still division winner precedence, so I guess not. Cards have a 7 game lead on Mets for record)

Re: Triple Happiness, 2015

Yes, the wild-card team cannot have home field advantage in the NLDS or NLCS.

It is an interesting question as to which central team the Mets would prefer to face in a hypothetical NLCS matchup.

Re: Triple Happiness, 2015

Well, their best regular season record was against the Cardinals, but you can only put so much weight on that.

The Mets team that lost seven games to the Cubs, for example, is a very different team than the one that they have now.

Today goes down as a truly wonderful day of baseball.

Mets 12 Reds 5 - Good guys win.

Phillies 8 Nationals 2 - Bad guys lose.

White Sox 5 Yankees 2 - Evil Empire loses.

Blue Jays 5 Rays 3 - Congenial Canadien neighbors win.

Mets magic number is down to 1.
