He's a nephew of my in-laws neighbors or something.

Re: Masters

He was in the final pairing a year ago and, even though he's not a household name everywhere, has at worst been the second best player in the world over the last six-eight months (will officially be #2 if he wins here) which makes the specter of a rivalry between the 21 y/o Spieth and Rory McIlroy (26 in a few weeks) just what golf needs in this (not quite) post-Tiger world.
That he's been tying or setting scoring records in this tourney so far may be a Wow! (favorable conditions have helped lower scores for everyone) but that he's in position to win isn't.
On the other hand he did double-bogie #17 yesterday turning his six shot lead into a four was just enough to make what was starting to look like a Tiger-like runaway in a situation where there are still several someones out there (most notably Phil M. & Justin Rose) close enough to steal it from him if he falters, or at least make him sweat it out.

Masters Sundays are usually a lot of fun. The odds for both birdies/eagles AND bogies/doubles, in the back nine especially, make simultaneous 2 and 3 shots swings higher at Augusta than in any of the other majors.

Re: Masters

One of the broadcasters noted that the officials are concerned that, due to weather conditions (too dry? too wet?), the scores have been too low. He added that they may move some of the pins to "toughen up" the course for the final round.

The greens can be sped up with the underground filtration system.

I hope Speith chokes.

Re: Masters

They always moves the pins around from day to day -- with the Sunday placements often being the toughest by design -- so there's a limit on how much extra they can do on that front.
Too wet/soft makes for easier scoring as opposed too overly dry/hard and rains earlier in the week combined with a lack of wind are what's made for "easy" scoring. But of course it's the same conditions for everyone and the kid Spieth has simply just been kicking ass since the 1st hole on Thursday.

They actually do have some kind of subterranean system at Augusta National that can dry out the ground from below if natural conditions above aren't doing the trick, but whether or not they intend to use it is probably being treated as akin to a state secret. And while the USGA has a bug up their collective asses about making sure everyone at the US Open winds up with a score at or above par, the folks who run the Masters don't seem to mind as much so I don't know that they'd do it just so that they could artificially steer the winning score towards the low teens under par as opposed to closer to 20.

Bug up their ass for sure.
