One of these teams owns MLB's best record. The other is on MLB's longest current winning streak.

NY Mets at Miami
When: 7:10 PM ET, Monday, April 27, 2015
Where: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
SportsDirect Inc.

After being brought back down to the ground by their crosstown rivals over the weekend, the New York Mets look to continue beating up on divisional opponents when they visit the Miami Marlins for the opener of a three-game series on Monday. New York matched a franchise record by registering 11 consecutive victories - all against fellow National League East clubs - before dropping two of three at Yankee Stadium, including a 6-4 setback on Sunday.

The winning streak included four triumphs over Miami during a 10-0 homestand. Miami fell to Philadelphia immediately after being swept in the four-game set by the Mets but has been unstoppable since, outscoring its opponents 32-6 while posting five consecutive victories. The Marlins yielded two runs in two victories over the Phillies before limiting Washington to four during a three-game sweep that concluded with Sunday's 6-2 win. Giancarlo Stanton went 5-for-7 with a homer and three RBIs over the final two games of the series.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Dillon Gee (0-1, 5.60 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jarred Cosart (1-1, 3.63)

Gee is coming off his best performance of the season, a seven-inning outing against Atlanta in which he allowed two runs and eight hits. The Texas native, who turns 29 on Tuesday, was unable to make it through six frames in either of his first two starts. Gee gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings versus Miami on April 16 but is 3-1 with a 3.30 ERA in seven career outings against the Marlins.

Cosart recorded his first victory of the campaign on Wednesday, a triumph at Philadelphia in which he surrendered just one run and four hits in six innings. The 24-year-old squared off against Gee earlier this month but settled for a no-decision after yielding five runs over 5 1/3 frames. It was the second career start versus the Mets by Cosart, who allowed two runs over six innings in a no-decision at New York on Sept. 15 of last season.

WALK-OFFS:
1. The Mets are 4-5 on the road this season.
2. Miami 2B Dee Gordon raised his season average to .390 on Sunday by going 4-for-5. He finished 8-for-13 in the three-game series versus the Nationals.
3. New York 3B David Wright (strained hamstring) will begin participating in baseball activities Monday and hopes to return to the lineup on Saturday.

Sounds like a good test to show if they are the real deal or just had a wonderful couple of weeks. Great teams fight through this kind of stuff.

I'm hoping they come back and destroy the fish tonight.

Of course it could also still be 0-0 at that point so it could go 16 innings and still be done by 10.

These low-scoring tie games get more nerve-racking as they go on when you're on the road.
Once you don't score in the top half the one half-inning advantage the home team has on you grows in proportion. 6 ABs vs 7 isn't as bad a disadvantage as having just 1 more AB to their 2 (as it is right now in the 8th).

April 27, 1973, is the team record for shortest nine-inning game, I believe. It went only 1:36.

But that technically went only 8 1/2. And the Mets lost, so...

What a weird game. The two guys at the top of endangered species list win it.

The Mets may have flaws in the meantime but nothing close to the kind of fundamental fuckup who'd put Ozuna in centerfield every night, and Cishek in to close games. We deserved to win!

Re: IGT 4/27 NYM@MIA Collins Avenue Shakedown

How to finish a game in under two hours

Below are batters/pitch chart for each side last night: first chart is for the top half of the innings (Cosart and then Cishek in the 9th)
and then the second one if for the bottom halves (Gee, then 1 pitch from Torres, then the 9th inning from Familia).
Not until bottom 8 & top 9 were there more than 4 batters in any half-inning. The only 2 baserunner inning prior to those (top 6th) also had the game's only GiDP between those two runners.

Check out those middle innings for Gee: 6 pitches thrown in the 4th, followed by by 10, 5, and 7.
28 pitches is less than ONE inning's work in some cases and would be considered reasonably efficient for two full innings.

0 walks by Mets pitchers last night too.

What a great game! One to remember, especially if the team continues to be successful this season.

Did anyone else see Figgy imply a loss during the post-game teaser before the ninth inning? Something like, "Dillon Gee threw 70 pitches. I'll show you why the last 4 cost him the game."

It's not over 'til it's over, Nelson.
