Organizational Sweeps of 2015

The Mets and their juniors have pulled the organizational sweep off just once so far this season, on April 16.

New York 7, Miami 5
Mets show character, coming from behind twice, with the big blow being a game-tying three-run homer by Wilmer Flores. Jerry Blevins gets his first Mets win.

Las Vegas 17, Fresno 4
The Backman Attack was merciless as Vegas pounded out 19 hits, including four from Matt Reynolds. Kevin Plawecki drove in five and Travis Tajeiron homered twice, just in case you missed the first one.

Binghamton 5, Erie 2
Bingo gets seven innings of one-run pitching from Matt Koch. Dustin Lawley and Josh Rodriguez support him with homers.

St. Lucie 14, Brevard County 6
St. Lucie doesn't look back after a five-run first, with three hits each from Domonic Smith and Colton "Vamos a la" Plaia leading the 18-hit attack. Maikis de la Cruz provided the defensive highlight, throwing a guy out at first from right field.

Savannah 8, Charleston 3
The Sand Gnats beat the rival RiverDogs, behind a home run surge from Stefan Sobel, Pedro Perez, and the less alliterative Wuilmer Becerra.[/*:m][/list:u]

Odds of a sweep with five teams in action are 31 to one. Gets a lot sketchier when they get the short-season teams in action. Still nice to celebrate.

Re: Organizational Sweeps of 2015

I haven't kept up with these, but we had one of them yesterday.

New York 3, Toronto 2
Mets complete the home sweep of the previously white-hot Blue Jays, with a depleted bullpen holding on after Matt Harvey delivered seven shutout innings, fanning six and walking zero.

Las Vegas 10, Salt Lake 6
The Backman Bunch scored in double digits again, racking up 15 hits, with seven or their nine starters collecting two or more. The action began with a first-inning homer by Matt Reynolds. The rout was seemingly on until Rainy Lara faulted in the fifth, giving up four runs and allowing SLC to go up 6-3, before Vegas roared back with seven unanswered runs the rest of the way. Cody Satterwhite and Chase Bradford each threw two scoreless innings to earn the win and the save, respectively. Kirk Nieuwenhuis, back with the team after clearing waivers, contributed a single, a double, and an RBI.

Binghamton 6, Portland 1
A leadoff homer by Marco Hernandez was all the damage Gabriel Ynoa would allow in his seven innings of work, shutting down the Sea Dogs the rest of the way, striking out two and walking zero, because Mets pitchers don't walk anybody anymore, drawing power from the eternal wellspring that is Bartolo Colon. Ninth-place hitter Eudy Pina homered and L.J. Mazzilli racked up three hits and nailed a baserunner at third on a relay.

St. Lucie 5, Clearwater 2
John Gant earned his first win of the season, going 5 2/3 and allowing both runs, while striking out seven. Robert Coles has stepped in nicely as the new closer, following the promotion of Akeel Morris, earning his second save. Leadoff dude and third baseman Jeff McNeil went 3–5, running his average to a lofty .333.

Savannah 6, Asheville 2
The Blue Jays aren't the only ones who can sign Cinderella boys out of the indy leagues, as the Sand Gnats threw their recent signee, Frontier League veteran and Metly named starting pitcher Casey Delgado up against the Tourists (who share a name with the band Annie Lenox and Dave Stewart originally collaborated with). Delgado gave them a Syndergaardian 7.2 innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out 10 and walking nuttin'. Luis Guillorme led the attack with two doubles. Pattersonville, NY's David Roseboom finished up, lowering his ERA to 1.29.[/*:m][/list:u]

Victory is sweet, cool drink.
