I have black Santana and Ventura jerseys, but I like the blue jerseys much better.

I bought one of each & a Jacket. Black hats long gone, still have the jersey & jacket (jackets pretty beat). For fan-wear I thought it was great. A black jacket went with anything. But I didn't like the black look used on the field. I'm old-school, pinstripes or snow white. I don't mind a blue (or even orange) jersey if they are going to mess with it, but not the black on the Mets. That was always unappealing to me on the field. They did do some great things in that black top, so there's that.

Have a circa-2000 away jersey someone got me as a gift, and keep it around for old times' sake. But, yeah, black-on-blue has NEVER 'worked' on anyone, ever.

I despised the black jerseys, and I'm glad they're gone. I don't think it was a coincidence that they disappeared as soon as Charlie Samuels was shown the door.

I liked them , hey just wore them way too much. When I think of the black I think late 90's and early 2000s Mets teams, some good years in there.

The black stuff was introduced as alternate. Had they remained alternate, they'd have been a shrug in the great sweep of Met history. Instead, as is the case when the Mets don't have enough faith or patience in whatever it is they were doing five minutes ago, it overwhelmed the color palette and getting rid of it became a cause. Bring back c. 1999 Edgardo Alfonzo to play second and black would be more beautiful than ever.

I think it was that plus something more. There was also a problem with Rick Peterson, I think. Something about how he never went without a jacket, and there was a kit or two that didn't have a coordinated jacket.

First, Charlie Samuels was shown the door in November 2010. Black uniforms were still around in 2011. Second, I actually had a chance to chat with Charlie a few years back (he was on the field pre-game near the stands and I engaged him in conversation). His take on the uniforms was that black was far and away the players' favorite. He also revealed that it was no coincidence that for "big" games, he would have the Mets in blue hats and pinstripes (think, for example, NLCS Game 7 in 2006, or the final day of the season in 2007, etc.)

I don't miss them since I think their time is past, but I liked the black uniforms at the time. I also liked the drop shadow on the other jerseys. I think the blue uniforms are a cool alternative though. Would love to see the end of the orange dot.

They were fine as a change of pace for a few seasons, but they definitely hung on to them way too long. The '99 & '00 seasons will always make those uniforms memorable. But I wouldn't want to see them return.

Yeah, they should have jettisoned them when the Minaya/Randolph management took over. They did wear out their welcome.

purple plaid would be fucking awesome. i liked the black jerseys and the all black caps. i hated the black drop shadow, and i really hated the black caps with the blue bills. and i'm orange dot agnostic. and lest i forget, the blue shirts with black lettering were the worst. blue with orange and the white piping makes me weak in the knees.
