The Streak

Las Vegas 51s have won 10 in a row. They sit atop the PCL Southern Division, and they're getting timely hits from even the likes of Wilfredo Tovar. Sounds like the high times of the Mets 10 days ago.

Winless Tyler Pill takes the pill today against Albuquerque, who counter with MLB vet, ex-Met, and Long Beach's own John Lannan.

Re: The Streak

Syndegaard was named the PCL player of the week. Hopefully he is going to show the Mets he is ready.

I'm wondering if he can hit at all.

Tyler Pill and the 51s rained out against the Isotopes.

Vegas up 2-1 in the fourth over Albuquerque, who strangely have a park that is reachable in straightaway center but deeper to the let and right of the cutaway.

Boomarang Met Logan Verrett started but only went one. I imagine he isn't injured but was given a short workday, since he was used in relief by Texas, and they'll be stretching him in subsequent starts.

Re: The Streak

It's all Vegas all the time, as the 51s sweep a pair from Albuquerque to run their streak to 12 straight games.

In game one, the pitchers run a brigade, with five of them pitching less than two innings in a 3-1 victory. The future of pitching may look like this.

In game game two, Vegas pounds the Isotopes, 11-2, behind two homers off the bat of second baseman Wilfredo Tovar. Newly arrived Brooks Conrad picked up three hits and three RBI. Steven Matz gave up two runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Thirteen winaroonies in a row, after the 51's downed Albuquerque 6-4. Travis Tajeiron has a perfect day, going 3–3, with two walks.

Chasen Bradford, who picks up the save, is to be henceforth known as THE MAN WITHOUT AN ERA, having logged 13 innings without being scored upon.

It's not just the Mets players who should be feeling a little heat coming their way out of Las Vegas, but Terry Collins as well.

Re: The Streak

You really think Backman is a threat to Collins? I don't know much about his managing style, but I just get the hunch that Wally is not an Alderson-type of manager.

Two more hits for Matt Reynolds. It's getting harder and harder to ignore what he has done this spring and early season. I'm rooting like hell for Wilmer. I think it's bullshit that he's getting booed. But he is going to have to pick his game up pretty fast.

I think he will do it though. And by mid-season I think Alderson is going to sit there and think to himself "What do I do with all of these productive shortstops?"

Re: The Streak

Why not? He finally established himself in the big leagues as an on-base machine, and that's what they're preaching top to bottom. Plus, he's managed at every level and in they've trusted him with their prospects for the better part of a decade.

I mean, sure, he's prone to being a psychotic nut bag, but I think 13 straight wins pimps out a resumé nicely. Branch Rickey found a way to live with Leo Durocher.

Somebody's gonna hire him for a big league job. Probably before the start of next season.

Re: The Streak

It's all just speculation, but I feel like Wally's personality would not be the type that Alderson would mesh with. The stuff I heard about the front office having a say in the lineups, I imagine Backman would not take well to it.

But who knows. I guess it's a possibility.

It would certainly be fun wouldn't it? It might be the first time we see a manager charge the mound and have to be restrained by his players.

Then Keith and Ronnie would run down from the booth and pile on.

Re: The Streak

I think barring a couple months of losing, Terry will get the rest of 2015 as skipper. If he makes the playoffs, he'll be brought back in 2016. If the team misses the playoffs, Backman will be given the job. Most of these ML players have already played for Backman within the Mets system (often with a large amount of success).

While I think management expects to compete this year and they feel like making the playoffs is a possibility, 2016-17 will be situations where playoff appearances will be expected for the team. Fair or not, I'm not sure the plan was ever to have Terry around for those situations.

So, um, yes. Yes he can it.

Syndergaard's savvy has the Streak up to 14 games.

It's a golden era we're seeing the dawn of.
