The Scent of Control

Bartolo Colon has now gone 40 2/3 innings without a walk, nearly halfway to the record of 84 1/3 innings, by Bill Fischer of the Kansas City Athletics, in 1962.

He's now sporting a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 34:1.

That's the way you do it.

I confess that I didn't think Colon would be this good. And he's getting just $10 million a year? A bargain.

Best bargain on the roster.

Too many pitchers put themselves in tight spots by their failure to throw strikes and issuing too many walks. Bartolo isn't doing anything to beat himself. More pitchers need to emulate his control.

Well, Harvey is the best bargain on the roster. But yeah, the signing looks pretty solid right now.

Colon's scent of imperturbability may have taken a hit last night, but the scent of control did not, as his walk-less streak was extended to 45 2/3 innings.

Bartolo does have a Cy Young and 210 wins achieved. Just sayin.

Well, yeah, considering their relative salaries-- which I believe was Edge's point-- Colon might not be the biggest bargain on this team if he were earning each of those 210 wins this season.

That said, I gotta say: I'm enjoying Colon's starts this year AT LEAST as much as I do Harvey's. (And that's before taking into account the hitting funs.)
