It was certainly an unofficial title. From the organizational point-of-view, I think it was as much about landing a replacement for Willie Mays, as Dugout Legend in Residence (also an unofficial title).

Kay Bee made a Vince Coleman baseball card? Makes sense. Children found him such a comforting presence when they met him in stadium parking lots.
