Got a Samsung Galaxy S5 shipping for Monday delivery. I mainly
got it because it was "free" versus "paying" for the S6.

Anyone have any experiences with this beast?

yes, i have this phone. It's a good phone, barring mine which won't update to Lollipop.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

My wife has the S5 and said she's had a bunch of problems since the Lollipop update. My Note 4 loves the update, though. So who knows.

my wife too, but most of them seem minor. I have trouble actually helping her since my damn phone won't update!

I thought maybe it was because I have an old non-secure SIM card but she does too so it's probably not that.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

I just looked at AT&T phone description details and the phone ships:

Operating System
Android™ v4.4 (upgradable to v5.0 Lollipop)

I printed that page for hopefully-not-needed future use!

personally, after letting it download on my LG-G2, I wish i had NOT downgraded to lollipop.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

Lollipop was a vast improvement over 4.4 KitKat. It's generallty best to save your data, and perform a complete wipe of your phone after any major OS upgrade.

Kase,

Since The At&T S5 got the update in April, it may already be installed on your phone. If not, I would recommend checking for an update before you install anything else. That should minimize any issues you have with the update.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

Thanks, hopefully it will just come with 5.0. If they're shipping
with 4.4 a month after getting it (according to your link, and if
I understand things correctly) I'm gonna be even more P O'd.

I wouldn't be surprised. almost all of the initial stock had 4.4 so I'd be surprised if they opened those up and updated them and reboxed them.

As Ceetar said, it all depends on how old the stock is. If those phones were built before the update was released, then they will have 4.4 on it.

Updating your OS will be pretty straightforward. If you need a hand, message me.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

Just bought my very first non-iPhone smartphone, the Galaxy S6. So far I really like it. I've had an Android tablet for a few years so I am familiar with the OS. Bonus to get a new tablet, which I needed anyway, along with my phone (it's shipping this week) for just another $10/month.

I'm adjusting to a much larger sized phone (my iPhone was a 4S and quite smaller) but it actually seems lighter, despite the increase in size.

I probably should have just gotten the S6... but I'm admittedly
cheap about some things.

Phone came... update to 5.0 took over an hour but was painless
and seems to be just fine.

my update still won't happen. I wonder who to bitch to about this? I really don't want to spend an hour on the phone with customer service, but..

Verizon. I haven't really seen many reports about the update failing, so don't know why mine is. I didn't even root the damn thing. (_that_ is probably what I'd end up doing before calling customer service, rooting it and flashing a 5.0 rom)

Have you tried wiping, and then updating? I wonder if one of your apps is causing it to fail.

yeah, I did a factory reset. though Verizon/Android likes to auto-download my apps again (wel, some of them) so perhaps I was too slow in updating again.

After you reset, there's a checkmark you can untoggle that prevents the auto download after you sign in.

yeah. That didn't work. so weird. I should just flash a stock lollipop rom but it's late to fool around with that stuff.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

How is it to unlock the bootloader on that phone? I thought Verizon phones were pretty much locked down.

nah, Android's too open for that, there are ways around everything. I think Verizon gave up, at least on some of it, a few years ago.

I haven't messed with this phone, but xda-developers seems to have a couple of threads of basically stock roms. I did root my S3 but didn't flash a different rom. I remember there were initially bootloader issues with that that were worked around.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

I rooted my HTC One M7 last year, and converted it to a GPE, but then I flashed it back to stock about a month later.

It's funny - I just don't feel the need to flash a rom any more...

There are generally very few reasons to bother unless you really want to customer the UI at extreme levels and really strip out bloatware and what not.

I've heard some of the camera controls are better in Lollipop, which is the main reason I've wanted to upgrade.

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

It seems like the manufacturers, and Google, have incorporated features that that were previously available only in the roms put out by the various developer communities.

When I had a Galaxy Nexus, the screen was so bad that I had to install the Franco kernel just so I could get the tint to look right....

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

I got a tablet a few weeks back that is running Android 4.4.4
Does anyone have any experience getting pages that use Adobe Flash to work?
I found a 'manually install bbbyyy' link and followed these directions:

Ensure that the Android device is connected to the Internet.
Open the Settings menu.
Select Security (or Applications, on older Android OS versions).
Select Unknown Sources.
Tap OK to confirm your selection.
Close Settings.
Launch the browser.
Search for "flash player archive page" or navigate directly to the Adobe Flash Player Archive page.
On the Archive page, scroll down to Flash Player for Android archives.
Select a version of Flash Player that is compatible with your Android operating system.

>>>(Note: I picked the newest one on a long list)
Tap the link to download the Flash Player installer. Download begins automatically.
When download completes, close the browser.
Open Notifications.
Tap install_flash_player.apk.
When prompted, tap Install.
When installation completes, tap Done.

Rebooted and no success...

Re: Cellular Devices 2015

try emailing the site and tell them to stop using fucking flash.

Not sure though otherwise, sounds like that should've worked. There should be a setting for 'get desktop version' of the website in the browser. Sometimes helps with things.
