Nats with a day/night DH today -- both of which should be finished by the time we even get going -- so by the early hours Wednesday AM there could be as much as a 1.5 game swing in either direction.

Four hours without any posts in the BB Forum this afternoon. Is everyone taking naps to prepare for staying up late tonight?

Nats won 2-0, pushing the Mets half a game in the rear view.

We're usually scouring around for lineups at this time of day but even that gets pushed back by several hours when we're out west.

I'm on a work trip. My goofing off might be severely compromised this week, although my time zone is a small benefit for West coast starts.

Kevin Pillar is our AL hero of the day (that's Pillar, not to be confused with the yappy ex-BoSox Kevin Millar)

Cuddy draws first blood. In Wilmer we trust.

How long can Tejeda sustain this level of play? Wow, almost a great play by T.

Serves me right for playing fantasy but I had the losing pitcher in both games of this double header today.

The Mets can get these back.

Edgy MD Jun 02 2015 08:59 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
Outside of the triple they didn't even hit him that hard. Just a big pile o' breaks.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2015 09:16 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
Well this is fucked up. He'll be safe at 3rd and therefore the fat ads will be safe at home.

Did I tell you guys I'm watching this game in a sports bar in Arkansas? Even more depressing.

Centerfield Jun 02 2015 09:17 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
How many opposite field hits will he give up before he throws inside?
|
Zvon Jun 02 2015 09:18 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
Shit. I thought we caught a break there. But nope, another triple.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2015 09:20 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
It almost looked like he was going to hit once the return of darnaud was imminent. But of course that euphoria wouldn't last.
|
Centerfield Jun 02 2015 09:21 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
I think the thing that pisses me off the most are those meatball curveballs thrown with 2 strikes. 98 MPH fastball. Establish inside and use it.
|
Zvon Jun 02 2015 09:26 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
I think Plawecki's just bushed.
|
Zvon Jun 02 2015 09:41 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
This ones going south of the border. That curve ball didn't totally suck. He looked to screw it into the ground and Norris somehow got it. 2 run blast.

Seven unanswered.

Centerfield Jun 02 2015 09:51 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
Bad night all around. I blame Terry's stupid hit and run with the pitcher up.
|
Zvon Jun 02 2015 09:54 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
I guess it was the thing to do but I would not have pulled Syndergaard there. He could have gotten a little more work in. I don't feel no comeback in this one.
|
Edgy MD Jun 02 2015 09:57 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
Amazing beyond amazing, Syndergaard had the same night tonight that Cashner had last night.

Even that triple was more well-placed than it was smoked. I thought he would bounce back from that inning even though he gave up 4, but that turned out to be his best inning.

As Gary said earlier, double-digit hits and Ks by a pitcher in 5 innings or less had never been done before in the history of the game ... and now it happens two days in a row in the same series.

Has now struck out in 1/4 of his ML PAs. That may be bushed or simply not ready, but either way I think those who were eager to replace d'Arnaud were a bit premature. RBI by Wilmer ... comeback is starting!
|
Edgy MD Jun 02 2015 10:08 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
One back is something.

IIRC aside from a nice little starting spurt d'Arnaud kinda sucked up the place til he went down and came back up. I like em both, hope both pan out. I don't expect Plawecki stay up when d' comes back. Cause there's something to that "he's not ready" talk. He needs to play and d' will get the bulk of it in the bigs, health willing.

Terrible night for Grandy so far.

Frayed Knot Jun 02 2015 10:40 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 Edited 2 time(s), most recently on Jun 02 2015 10:41 PM |
Since Cashner left the game early in the 5th inning Monday night, I think the Padres pitchers have thrown about 80% breaking balls to Met hitters.

Zvon Jun 02 2015 10:41 PM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
I'm waiting for Tejada to rip off his Mission Impossible rubber mask. I'm dyin to see who's under there.

It's not like his productivity is unprecedented. It's easy to overlook, in part because of the depressed offensive environment league-wide, but his 2014 was a lot closer to his functionally useful 2011–2012 than it was to his disastrous 2013. He's had one misbegotten season, and Marc Carig would tell you it's been his whole career. I'm rooting for him. He's now got the second-best OPS among Met hitters not on the DL. (Third-best, if you count Syndergaard.)

MFS62 Jun 03 2015 08:33 AM Re: IGT #53: Mets at Padres, 6/2/15 |
This should have been an opportunity for Niese to work out his problems and also rest other arms in the bullpen. And, it would have fit into TC's plans to have pitchers throw between starts in the 6 man rotation. Those are generally the only good things to come out of games like this.
