Got to like our chances against a Giants pitcher who may be a relative of Charles Heston.

Looking forward to a 7:10 start and a winning home stand. Wish
it was tonight, but I suppose a day of rest can't hurt.

Time jump in thread title, unless this is subliminal advertising for Noah on 6/9 to flirt with a perfecto as another young pitcher did on another 7/9.

Re: IGT 7/9 Giants v Mets Syndergaard

San Francisco at NY Mets
When: 7:10 PM ET, Tuesday, June 9, 2015
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

Two months into the season and the New York Mets sit atop the National League East while the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants battle it out with the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. Both teams will look to make a move forward when the Mets host the Giants in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday.

The Mets have benefited from the Washington Nationals’ recent swoon to jump up in the East and took the top spot behind a two-homer day from Curtis Granderson in a 6-3 win at Arizona on Sunday. "It was good to get the victory so that helps us for this nice long flight,” Granderson told reporters. “It was a nice way to wrap up the series and we have an off day (Monday), so that's even nicer." San Francisco pulled out of a five-game slide with back-to-back wins at Philadelphia but could not pull off the sweep and dropped a 6-4 decision on Sunday. Giants’ pitchers are allowing an average of 5.8 runs in the last eight games.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Bay Area (San Francisco), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Chris Heston (5-4, 4.29 ERA) vs. Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (2-3, 3.77)

Heston appeared to be pulling out of his own slump with a dominant performance against Atlanta on May 28 but struggled in a loss to Pittsburgh last Tuesday. The 27-year-old rookie was knocked around for five runs on seven hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. Heston, who is making his first start against New York, has allowed at least five earned runs in five of his last eight starts.

Syndergaard got rocked for the first time in his major-league career at San Diego last Tuesday, when he was shelled for seven runs and 10 hits in four innings to absorb the loss. The 22-year-old Texan still displayed the dominant stuff that has New York’s front office so excited by notching 10 of the 12 outs via strikeout. Syndergaard, who has not walked a batter in any of his last three turns, is 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA in two home starts.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Giants 2B Joe Panik is enjoying a 12-game hitting streak.
2. New York LF Michael Cuddyer has hit safely in 12 straight as well.
3. San Francisco took six of seven in the series last season, outscoring the Mets 35-18.

Re: IGT 6/9 Giants v Mets Syndergaard

So apparently the strategy of this game is:
1) to put on as many Giant leadoff batters as possible
2) to strike out on 3 pitches as often as possible

It's nice that they have a plan, but I'm not sure is a winning one.

Re: IGT 6/9 Giants v Mets Syndergaard

So in the 9th inning we'll have:
Recker - who has 7 hits this season
a PH off our .180-hitting bench, probably Mayberry who has all of 11 hits this year
and Granderson who I don't think has made contact yet tonight.

Keith of all people.

Is this a question of honor? I wonder how many times Pete Rose bunted to try and end a no-hitter after the fif... oh, wait.

Still, If I'm coaching this team, I want at least one bunt an inning. Ruthless indeed.

Re: IGT 6/9 Giants v Mets Syndergaard

The only argument I could make for NOT bunting is that if it's bad strategy at that point in a game that wasn't a no-hitter.
Some manager got pissed about a half-dozen years ago after I think it was a 9th inning bunt, but it was also a one or two run game IIRC so I had no problem with it.
But we know that Keith is 'old school' to a fault at times and therefore ascribes to the chivalric code.

oh yes, definitely my fault. It was my tweet about the deep fried oreos I bet.

Here's a question I was pondering early. After he hits TWO guys back to back, in the fourth, if Duda gets angry and yells stuff at Heston, does it result in the benches getting warned? Does it result in an ejection in the 9th when he hits Recker?

Or, game-theory, does it result in him pitching a little more carefully, a little differently, and he misses just enough to give up some hits?

Re: IGT 6/9 Giants v Mets Syndergaard

Maybe, but those outlooks are assuming an aggressiveness and gamesmanship that are not characteristic of this squad's offense.

And really guys, ceetar's not the one who misdated the thread.

Re: IGT 6/9 Giants v Mets Syndergaard

The good news about the no hitter is that nobody around the country noticed. ESPN and most of the sports pages were featuring LeBron James stuff. I just heard on WFAN that the Washington Post headline sports page article was about a local high school team and the no-hitter was buried in the newswire out of town recap stuff.

Interesting Grantland article about the strike zone ballooning in the ninth inning of this no-hitter, and about how that is the new normal, except it probably isn't that new at all.
