GFA. Tweets are all over it. Springboarding off of Rubin.

OE: Rubin says Mets have not acknowledged it yet.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

The Daily News has confirmed it.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseb ... -1.2258844

So has the Post.

I liked Gee, and the team has been jerking him around all season, but he's just not up to snuff, especially with Matz ready and Wheeler and Montero coming back next year.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

I don't know that he's been jerked around. There's no easy choice for handling such a situation.

We're looking at the beginnings of a wave of perfectly serviceable guys that are going to get kicked aside — many unceremoniously — as prospects force the issue. Gee was preceded by Recker, though he may or may not be back. Further bumpoffs may soon include Murphy, Tejada, Niese, Cuddyer, Granderson. Some might be preemptively traded; some might just play out their contracts and not get called back; and others, like Gee, might be held on to until their performance ebbs, but few of them can afford to let their heads dip below water for long.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

I didn't know what to do about Gee. He complains about the Mets hurting his value and then he goes out and causes his own value to flatline. He has been pulled around but he's not doing the job. He had plenty of opportunity to turn things around for himself. Still, this was the last thing I expected.

I like Gee as well. I recall an interview he did in spring training with the female Gelbs. Gee was responding to the questions but it seemed he was talking to himself. He didn't even look at her, but out on the field. He seemed really intense. I thought this guy is so focused- this guys gonna have a good year on the mound. Wrong & wrong.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

I'm not buying the part about him being jerked around by the Mets.
He started regularly until going on the DL, then was inserted right back into the rotation when he came off. After getting hit around for 7 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits in 4 innings in that first start, he was skipped ONCE in the rotation and pitched out of the pen (where he retired 4 of the 8 batters he faced - two on line-outs and two on deep flies) before getting another start and pitching even worse than his first post-DL game [8 ER on 11 hits in 3.2 IP]

It's unfortunate that he got injured around this time last year -- was out from May 10 to July 9 -- and that he really hasn't been that good since: in the 28 starts prior May 10 of '14 he had a 2.86 ERA, a 1.11 WHiP, and a 137/22 K/BB ratio. In the 22 starts since then his ERA is 5.13 with a 1.46 WHiP. Whatever happened, he ain't the same guy.

The bottom line is the fact that they're DFA-ing him indicates they were having trouble trading him and hope that this will force the issue with some of the teams who are looking for pitching.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

From Puma (NY Post):

The Mets [u:133xpgey]have 10 days to trade or waive Gee[/u:133xpgey]. If he clears waivers, he can be released or sent down to the minors.
“We will see if there is an interest from any other clubs,” Alderson said. “In the event there is not he would be optioned or outrighted to Vegas.”
The Mets had Gee on the trading block all winter, with limited success. Alderson said he had one serious conversation with one team, but a swap never materialized.
“It’s possible the club will express interest, and if they do, so be it. If they don’t, we still view him as an asset,” Alderson said. “We’re going to need a sixth guy here pretty soon, and it could be him.”

Even I think that's harsh especially with 32 and 46 just sitting there unused.

Technically you get a number when you 're added to the 40 and you lose one when you're off it but still. That's the kind of thing they'd do to Roberto Alomar not Dillon Gee. You wonder if there wasn't more to Gee's unhappiness with getting his chain pulled that didn;t get out yet.

The body's not even cold! Come on, Mets. Plenty of numbers you can give the kid.

I liked Dillon Gee. Never great, never awful. He was John Maine for a new generation.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

I really thing a year's worth of Mets should be a set unto itself, with each player getting exclusive rights to his number whether he shed it by April 3 or October 3. Things tie up nicely that way. You don't want to try figuring out years later who wore a number first. Dillon Gee was the 35 of 2015. Logan Verrett wore 32 that year. That's how it should be. It keeps the filing clean, if nothing else.

Looking forward to reading what Breitbart News has to say about this.

32 is reserved for Steven Matz.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

And honestly, GEE ISN'T ALL THAT GOOD. He's better than you, he's better than me, he's better than lots of guys. But he's got a 91 career ERA+, doesn't strike guys out, and will be 30 next year. I'll remember him, but I'm not ruing the loss. If he had that much value, he'd be in someone's rotation by now, either ours or someone else's.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

Gee would never have been 35 if Edgy's one-guy-a-year rule were in effect. It would belong the Mike Jacobs who wore it earlier than he in 2010.

I like Edgy's rule. We'll call it Edgy's Rule.

Speculate: if 35 was tied up for that season what number would Gee have been issued?

Efforts to trade Gee have yielded nothing, so he's now officially on waivers where you gotta figure that his odds of being claimed are fairly small.
So, if so, he likely winds up in Vegas pitching and waiting around for ... whatever.

I'm thinking the odds of a claim are pretty large. Some team claimed Nieuwenhuis, and he was having a far worse season than Gee.

Wait, that was us.

We'll see.

Re: Gee, I've been DFA'd?

According to the New York Post, anti-police protestors attempted today to burn the American flag in Fort Greene, announcing their intentions to do so on social media. Their attempt drew counter protestors, including a biker gang who forcefully intervened, leading the anti-police protestors to supposedly need protection from those selfsame police. All a typically overblown Post story full of jingoism, testosterone, summer passion and divisive politics? That's what I thought, until I saw one of the bikers appears to be... Dillon Gee!
