NY Mets at Milwaukee
When: 8:10 PM ET, Tuesday, June 23, 2015
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
SportsDirect Inc.

The New York Mets hope to locate their missing offense as they wrap up their pronounced road trip by beginning a three-game series against the struggling Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. The Mets have mustered all of six runs en route to losing the first five contests of their eight-game trek, with Sunday's 1-0 loss to Atlanta marking the second time they have been blanked on the trip.

"You're living on the edge when you don't have much to work with," New York manager Terry Collins told reporters. "We're getting used to watching some pretty good pitching and we can't score. It's a little frustrating for everybody." Milwaukee certainly knows a bit about frustration, as it dropped two of three at Colorado over the weekend and eight of its last nine overall to reside percentage points ahead of Philadelphia for the worst record in the majors. Ryan Braun drove in three runs in the series against the Rockies and is 4-for-14 (.286) in his career versus Tuesday starter Jonathon Niese.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Jonathon Niese (3-7, 4.21 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Mike Fiers (3-7. 4.50)

Niese fell to 0-5 with a 6.30 ERA in his last seven outings despite allowing just three runs on seven hits in as many innings against Toronto on Wednesday. The 28-year-old has permitted seven homers in that span as he searches to record his first win since May 9. Niese owns a 2-1 career mark versus Milwaukee, but suffered the setback in his last meeting despite allowing three runs in five innings.

After yielding three runs or fewer in seven straight starts, Fiers was blitzed for six on eight hits in five innings en route to a 10-2 setback to Kansas City on Wednesday. The 30-year-old didn't help himself by issuing three walks for the third straight contest, but managed to keep the ball in the park for the sixth time in eight outings. Fiers has limited experience against the Mets and has been taken deep twice in three minor-league meetings with Travis d'Arnaud, who could return to the lineup after missing one game due to a hyperextended elbow.

WALK-OFFS:
1. New York OF Curtis Granderson, who is 3-for-7 with a homer in his last two games, went deep on two occasions to help his team claim two of three from Milwaukee at Citi Field on May 15-17.
2. Brewers CF Carlos Gomez could return to the lineup on Tuesday after missing eight of the last 11 games with a strained right hip
3. Mets 1B Lucas Duda is 2-for-17 on the road trip.

I think this is the thing here. Doodoo does not look like Doodoo lately. Didn't he miss like, 1 game with some minor injury? He really hasn't been the same since although you see flashes, I'm almost certain it'll come out that he's hurting too.

got hit with a pitch on the knee I think? He's having a subpar June, he's allowed a slump here and there, still wRC+ing 136, but no one else is stepping up to cover him.

Re: IGT 06/23 - Mets at Brewers

I tuned in for the moment of silence for Hamilton. They didn't show it and have not yet mentioned the tragedy. I figured they'd do the moment and talk about it then, get it out of the way.

Mets go 1-2-3 in the first.

This pitcher's ERA is like 4.50.....so we're in trouble.

Lagares playing shallow (he hasn't been lately) but his tender arm comes into play and he throws at the trailing runner as the Brews score first.

Pretty rough listening to all these guys talking about Darryl H.

First guy to get a hit in regular-season interleague play.

Re: IGT 06/23 - Mets at Brewers

Post-injury Dilson lookin' not big-league ready as the Brews get two on with no out in the sixth.

The dis-spirited Brewers announcers saying the team is, "not out of it yet." You're down by one in the sixth! Of course you're in it!!

Tying run a double play. I'll kinda take that.

Brewers TV crew have figured out that Lagares' arm isn't right.

Re: IGT 06/23 - Mets at Brewers

Ugh, this is a tough one to watch. Why more than some of the other more recent loses? I dunno. Maybe because this will be 6 in a row. If we give back that 11 game winning streak we will never recover.

Re: IGT 06/23 - Mets at Brewers

At least they went down fighting:
6th: K, K, GO
7th: GO. LO, HBP, K
8th: K, K, GO
9th: K, K, GO

Last balls off NYM bats to leave the infield? Oh those were back in the 4th inning.
They were still outs mind you, but at least they got past the infield dirt.
For the last hit you need to go back to the 3rd.

But it's not like we were facing the league's worst pitching staff or anything ... oh wait!

Strikeouts looking are dis-spiriting. Not even against breaking pitches.

Shorten up and defend with two strikes, preaches Hernandez from the booth. But the congregation heeds not.

Re: IGT 06/23 - Mets at Brewers

We had the baby with us, so we left before the Brewers scored their second run and heard the rest of the game on the way home in the car.

Niese recovered well, but I had a bad feeling about this game after the first inning. I only saw the Cuddyer error on replay...ughh.

The highlight of the game was that our seats were in the section in front of the SNY booth and we got Ronnie to give us a wave before the game.

Re: IGT 06/23 - Mets at Brewers

This team is punchless, and it's not going to get better. There's no one to call up from the minors- they've all been here already and they've sucked, even though they were hitting .370 or whatever in Vegas.

And being punchless, it means that there's no margin for the sloppy defensive play that seems to be a nightly event.

So we're staring at the abyss, another hundred games or so of 3-2 and 2-1 losses. And unless something happens, 2016 is going to look a lot like 2015.

Firing Collins won't change this, even though he annoys me. These guys are professionals, even though some (most?) are playing out of position. But they haven't been playing professionally for a while except for brief spurts of competence.

We at least weren't fooled by The Streak, but I'm betting Sandy was hoping he could leverage that enough to get through the season. But they're back to .500 now and falling fast. And the ripcord on the parachute seems to be stuck.

Re: IGT 06/23 - Mets at Brewers

I disagree that it's not going to get better. The nature of things suggests it has to. The question is whether it will be in time.
