IGT 6/24/15 NYM @ MIL: Meet, The Mets

G-Fafif
Jun 24 2015 04:40 AM

After six consecutive losses in three cities representing three different divisions, the Mets shall meet to hash out what's wrong, though their manager has implied nothing much will come from it.

And with that as backrop, the Amazins attempt to not lose their seventh in a row, this one to the worst home team in baseball, the one that beat the second-worst road team in baseball.

Bartolo Colon will take on generically named Jimmy Nelson.

Jimmy Nelson has given up 10 runs on 21 hits plus 4 walks (vs only 3 Ks) over his last two starts.
So, if recent history is any indication, that means we should be expecting a 7-inning/3-hit/8-K outing from him tonight.

[Fiers had been 9 runs on 13 hits, 6 BBs in his 2 starts before last night]

NY Mets at Milwaukee
When: 8:10 PM ET, Wednesday, June 24, 2015
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
SportsDirect Inc.

The New York Mets have mustered just eight runs en route to losing the first six contests of their eight-game road trip. The season-high skid has resulted in a 36-36 overall record for the Mets, who look to ignite their sputtering offense when they continue their three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

New York is batting just .168 as a team during its trek and fell to 10-25 away from Citi Field following a 3-2 setback on Tuesday. Curtis Granderson belted a solo homer for the second time in three games, but the Mets recorded just three other hits in the loss. Michael Cuddyer is mired in an 0-for-11 slump at the plate, and his error in left field on Adam Lind's double allowed Carlos Gomez to score the eventual winning run in the seventh inning. Lind is 4-for-10 with two RBIs and as many runs scored in his last three games for the Brewers, who posted just their second win in 10 contests and are a major league-worst 12-24 at home.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Bartolo Colon (9-5, 4.81 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (3-8, 4.64)

Colon failed miserably in his first bid to reach the 10-win plateau on Thursday as he allowed seven runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 7-1 setback to Toronto. That outing was only marginally better than the results of the 42-year-old's last meeting with Milwaukee, against which he permitted six runs in five frames of a 7-0 loss on May 15. Colon fell to 3-2 lifetime versus the Brewers while allowing the club to bat .315 against him.

Nelson yielded double-digit hits in his second straight start and suffered his fourth loss in his last six turns with a 3-2 setback to Kansas City on Thursday. The 26-year-old looks to get back on track versus New York, against which he has an 0.92 WHIP and allowed just a .150 batting average in his career despite losing his lone decision in two starts. Nelson has struggled with his control this season, issuing 32 walks in just 83 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Former Mets RHP Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 14th save in as many chances on Tuesday.
2. New York placed C Travis d'Arnaud on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left elbow.
3. Milwaukee 3B Hernan Perez is 10-for-21 with three runs scored and two RBIs in his last eight games.

Pot luck -- meaning somebody was high when he put this lineup together:

Curtis Granderson – RF
Ruben Tejada – 2B
Lucas Duda – 1B
Wilmer Flores – SS
Darrell Ceciliani – LF
Juan Lagares – CF
Johnny Monell – C
Eric Campbell – 3B
Bartolo Colon – RHP

Ceciliani is a maybe in the future? I don't know why no Kevin or Dilson.

I guess Coach Cuddy is grounded by Terry after last night's fiasco.

Re: IGT 6/24/15 NYM @ MIL: Meet, The Mets

Cuddyer was apparently given a choice of a day off and chose this one. He can go on extended holiday and it's debatable how long it would take to notice he was as invisible as his bat.

TC said his meeting message, like that of Frankie three decades back, is relax.

Frankie went to Milwaukee and collected an easy save last night.

Now we just have to work on that getting the ball out of the infield thing. As of now the losingest pitcher in all of baseball since last July hasn't allowed one through the first 6 batters.

Brewer hits in top 1st = 4
Met hits in 11 innings = 4

Have all of our singles this season been followed up by GiDPs or just 80-some percent of them?

Most common expression in NYM games this year: [Opposing pitcher] has faced the minimum through three

Well, Granderson — who has GOT to be dropped into the middle of the lineup — ends that minimum bullshit.

And speaking of KABOOMs... ah, I'm gonna leave it at that.

Not that GiDPs only follow right on the heels of singles, but the Mets' GiDP to singles pct is "only" about 18% - still ridiculous and it's probably not surprising to anyone that the Mets lead the league in GiDPs (by six over anyone and some 30% higher than league average) despite having a near league worst OBP.
And we can't even blame tonight's on Cuddyer.

It's not like the particulars of the lineup (or the opposing pitcher for that matter) make a difference. They've totaled 33 hits during this (almost)7 game losing streak.

Re: IGT 6/24/15 NYM @ MIL: Meet, The Mets

I tend to think the particulars matter, even if it's hard to make 1 and 1 to add up to anything but 2.

To come out of a team meeting and write Campbell's name on the lineup card is a bad particular.

You might want to at least put an ellipse in if you incompletely quote a statement.

You just owe your team something more if you have a meeting and ask them to do something different and you go out there and do the same thing. Shaking things up just for the change in perspective has a value. Demonstrate trying for them by trying to find an edge yourself.

Another cock-punch of a game. I scored front row seats right behind the plate and they could not have been more wasted.

I saw a guy in a #13 BLEVINS Mets jersey from afar. I thought about tracking him down and getting the story on that one, but didn't have the nerve. Has to be a relative, right?

Going with a Brewers fan buddy tomorrow. They cannot get swept...I won't survive the car ride home with all the shit I'll have to take if they do.
