Just buy one of these guys please ....

The starting pitching is good enough that even very modest upgrades to the offense should add a handful of wins. Between Murphy's return, Dilson's potential and the possibility of a Wright return, I think they have enough infield options to be OK. Prado and Zobrist would be nice but I don't see Sandy giving up young talent to get them, and I don't want to give up any of the 4 young guns necessary for a blockbuster.
The best chance for improvement imho is a fourth outfielder who can either win a spot outright or help us ride out the slumps that all three are prone too.

So I ask the Wilpons to give Sandy enough money so he can send a mid-level prospect or two to buy one of these guys for the rest of the year from crappy teams that are gonna lose without them anyway -
in no particular order:

David Murphy
Ryan Raborn
Seth Smith
Ichiro
Marlon Byrd
Gerardo Parra
Will Venable

Aside from Byrd and Raburn, nobody here to really get excited about but they could use the help!

I was looking at Gerardo Parra too. I don't think we need Byrd again or Ichiro the first time, but Seth Smith would be a nice LH PH type (he's a lefty, right?). Raburn would really upgrade on Campbell, and probably Muffy.

I'll take my chances with Mayberry. As for a lefty swinger guy, you want a CFer backup type so you don't have to play Granderson there.

And I'm not convinced any of those guys necessarily out perform Kirk Nieuwenhuis

Parra's the only one I'd be remotely interested in.

Lotta mediocrity on the list, the Mets don't really need to add
mediocrity right now. Pleading with Freddie to give Sandy some
money to make a change for the sake of change (and showing that
he's willing to open up his coin purse) seems a little silly to me in
late June. There will be changes made in July.

Have you seen Mayberry & Niewenhuis play this year?

If there is one thing I found out last week in Milwaukee is that the Brewers are very happy with Parra. I'm not sure he is going anywhere.

If mediocre means something close to league average production from LF and CF, then they need plenty of mediocre.

Mayberry's last 640 PAs over 3 seasons

.217 / .287 / .395

Kirk 616 PAs over 4 years

.226 / .299 / .368

Without number-crunching through 3 months, seems to me that
it's looking to remove a wooded peg or two and replacing the holes
with similar wooden pegs for the sake of change. Your mileage may
vary, of course.

Kirk's number's against righties for his career are higher than any Mets outfielder or bench player this year except for Granderson.

Mayberry has an .844 OPS against Lefties in 274 games. It's so much more likely that the 44 PA he's had against them this year is the aberration, and not that.

Kirk's a different story because he's had a lot fewer PA in general. But he did manage a very nice line last year in more than 3x the chances we have him this year, and he's at least putting a good swing on balls right now, even if it's against lesser competition in a hitters environment. And he's free.

Re: Just buy one of these guys please ....

Four healthy starters like this don't come around very often and it is very tough to watch it go to waste. I know we don't have Posey and Sandoval to build around, but the Giants are a very good recent example of what can happen when you add a few moderate offensive replacements to great starting pitching when the first plan doesn't work out.
