In the response to the various Granderson/Cuddyer suxx themes going on:

Plawecki: .262/.333/.310 -- 0 HRs
Duda: .187/.310/.264 -- 1 HR
Flores: .221/.257/.337 -- 2 HR
Herrera: .167/.282/.292 -- 1 HR
Tejada: .230/.306/.322 -- 0 HR
Campbell: .156/.240/.244 -- 1 HR
Cuddyer: .211/.237/.311 -- 1 HR
Lagares: .260/.267/.410 -- 2 HR
Granderson: .297/.371/.544 -- 7 HRs

Or in OPS order, or reverse order of who you want to be criticizing:

Granderson: .297/.371/.544 // .915 -- 7 HRs
Lagares: .260/.267/.410 // .677 -- 2 HR
Plawecki: .262/.333/.310 // .643 -- 0 HRs
Tejada: .230/.306/.322 // .628 -- 0 HR
Flores: .221/.257/.337 // .594 -- 2 HR
Duda: .187/.310/.264 // .574 -- 1 HR
Herrera: .167/.282/.292 // .574 -- 1 HR
Cuddyer: .211/.237/.311 // .548 -- 1 HR
Campbell: .156/.240/.244 // .484 -- 1 HR

Campbell has been effectively replaced in the lineup, if not on the roster. So Cuddyer is the next opportunity you want to look at.

Although when your supposed 30 HR man is [u:2nwu6el8]slugging .264[/u:2nwu6el8] for the month he has to be part of the conversation as well.

Re: June Swoon

It's a big conversation.

But it's easiest to start with the lowest-hanging fruit. And in Cuddy's case, he's bruised fruit too.

Re: June Swoon

Christ, that's pathetic.

I don't know all there is to know about OPS, but isn't league average usually around .700? So, we had 7 below average guys (most woefully so) according to that metric?

Re: June Swoon

Guys who are probably hurt
Duda
Lagares
Cuddyer

Guys who actually suck
Tejada
Capmbell
Flores??

Guys who are over their heads
Plawecki
Hererra
Flores??

Guys who are in decline
Granderson
Cuddyer

Flores is the only guy I can't for sure put in any box.

I just checked my Wilmer IPP and predicted bust. Kinda surprises
me because I think he'll eventually find himself. Guess I'm fickle.

leaguewide OPS is .711. (.713 in June)

.722 for Non Pitcher. (.724 in June)

.727 for non pitcher NL. (.724 in June)

.657 for June SSs leaguewide. (so yeah, not like there's a lot to trade for)

Re: June Swoon

And yet, with a truckload of banjos for our offense, the Mets went 12-15 en Junio.

Re: June Swoon

Ultimately, this is why I'm more or less opposed to using our young guns to acquire position players via trade this season. Even if the Mets were to acquire one of the best players in the game via trade (even that is not likely), they would still only have one or two truly reliable bats in their lineup at any given time (as opposed to the zero or one reliable bats now). Even with Duda and Murphy batting in the ninth last night, I had little faith that they would come through in a one run ballgame.

That list above solidifies the fact that due to injury, suckitude, youth and decline, this Mets offense is much more than one player away from being potent. I would be upset at trading any of the big four arms to get bats to help for the remainder of this season.

Now, to Edgy's note above...I'm certainly not giving up on this season. The pitching is keeping them afloat in spite of the offense. But I think the best course is to hope that players with injuries can get healthy or that Colon, Niese or (maybe) Montero and/or Mejia is enough to get us an offensive piece or two to help add depth and get over the hump.

I think that's probably where Sandy Alderson is at, too.
