Just wondering, as they've seem to have hit rock bottom.

media still seems to love him, so doubt the Mets feel compelled to make what will at best be a lateral move anyway, cause no way they're interviewing candidates mid-season.

Wally Backman's got a team five and a half games in front of El Paso. It's a factor.

Terry isn't going anywhere until the season is over. They won't pay for a second manager.

Managers are cheap. Interims cheaper. There's a lot of good and bad reasons not to fire him, but I don't think it's deep pockets.

I think he should be fired, because I think he's lost this team.

I think he won't be fired mainly due to the extra cost involved, no matter how relatively cheap it may be.

They can replace Sandy and Terry at the end of the season.

I think I once posted here that I was opposed to Wally Backman because he was a psychopath, and, although he probably still is, I think I'm ready for the Wally Era.

Bring it on.

Why not?

Re: Going to Cali... is Terry Going With Them?

Wally has made it perfectly clear what he wants from his minor league players. Yes it be can salty but it is simple and to the point. Baseball players are not rocket scientists. They understand Wallyspeak.

I love how he ends a postgame tirade with "ok, now go sign some autographs.?

Terry? Tired, old and spent. Thank you for your efforts.

Re: Going to Cali... is Terry Going With Them?

The Mets have canned departing managers owing them money, often for multiple years, virtually every time they made a change.
They may or may not make a decision to jettison Terry but that decision isn't going to hinge on balking at paying him 1/2 a season's salary.

Since The Madoff scheme blew up on them?

Re: Going to Cali... is Terry Going With Them?

Much of this may have to do with whether or not David Wright can continue his career. If he is done I want a young GM and manager to right the tracks.

Re: Going to Cali... is Terry Going With Them?

I've not been a big proponent of Wally to this point, but this team has been so lackadaisical that SOMEBODY needs to kick their ass.

(Besides the other team, that is.)

Re: Going to Cali... is Terry Going With Them?

David Wright may never be as good, but it's highly unlikely he's done, and I'm not sure what the age of the manager or general manager has to do with anything.

How does one even measure that?

I don't think Terry's coming back next year but a fair analysis of the team's troubles reveals that the shortcomings are on the front office and ownership, not Terry.

I don't know that anybody's done it, but I think a manager's performance is quantifiable. Coaches, too.

It's internally quantifiable maybe. We don't have access to more information than we do regarding what managers do.

Re: Going to Cali... is Terry Going With Them?

They handle enough players that comparing each players career trajectory projection when he comes under a manager's care with what they ultimately produce under him should do the trick. Any one player's change in career trajectory could be attributable to any number of factors with varying degrees of relevance to his manager's care. But as dozens and then hundreds of players pass through the manager's stable, patterns emerge and meaningful bottom line starts to form.

I don't think Sandy Alderson's moves are succeeding or failing based on his testosterone level or cellular degeneration.

He strikes me as a man who can clean the floor with a lot of guys half his age, for what that's worth.

A fresh piece from Heyman on Terry and Sandy. Not a bad read.
