We got up early to attend Q104.3 live Breakfast with the Beatles with Ken... Listen at 8 am! Considering Steve Miller this afternoon. #HowMuchMoreClassicRockCanYouGet

The only way you're day could be more classick rock is if Black Betty went crazy on you in the white room.

So didn't make it to Shea but a fun time at Ken's Beatles show this morning. A band of NYC session vets led by Mark Rivera (in Billy Joel's band now) with Utopia's Kasim Sultan on bass, Steve Van Zandt on guitar, the "Fab Faux" drummer + others played about 6 songs interspersed with Ken's regular Beatles stuff, which we listen to every Sunday morning. Sultan did a solo-ish Blackbird, they also did "Got to Get You Into My Life" "Birthday" "Boys" & "Yer Blues". You should all dig Ken, a big supporter of ALS charities, a big Beatles fan and a very big Mets fan.

Here's amatuer video of what I felt was like the "highlight"

That's just great. Never saw Rivera front a band. He was the sax man for the only version of the All-Starr band I ever saw. He was a rare member without hits of his own to sing.

He also was all over So, carrying the brass section on "Sledge Hammer."

My final Rivera association is that Billy Joel's explanation for not playing Live Aid was that Rivera was unavailable and BJ wouldn't go on without his sax man. Couldn't tell you where Rivera was or whether Joel reached out to Richie Cannata, his previous sax guy.

Kasim Sultan, of course, was a member of the New Cars for their entire existence.

Ran into Kasim in the men's room but didn't bring that up. He and Rivera apparently grew up together in Staten Island or something.

I know Kasim Sultan from UTOPIA. I met him one time when they played a club in Wildwood many, many moons ago. I ran into the whole band after the show as they were leaving the club. He's a very nice guy. Could sing and play too. And wrote a few numbers. Did Kasim do any of the Beatle-like songs Utopia recorded for Deface The Music?

Someone with a better seat and camera than me caught Kasim's "Backbird" which Mark Rivera makes, just watch. I'm not sure how much of DEFACE KS was responsible for, I'm sure some of it.
