Band Ladder Challenge: Queen v. Jimi Hendrix Experience
Johnny Dickshot Feb 08 2006 10:04 AM |
LONDON — Laser focused on avoiding a further slide in the All-Time Greatest Band Ladder Challenge, Queen adjusted its lineup for its upcoming tilt with acid-dropping psychedelic guitar genius Jimi Hendrix and his band, the Experience.

Don't Stop Me Now v. Foxy Lady -- JIMI |

Question: what album do I find the Experience version of "Sunshine of your Love" on? I think I've seen footage of them performing the song, but I'm not sure what track Coo is referring to.

Those 'fros can barely be contained by the album cover.

Jimi's covers are great. Hey Joe, Sunshine of Your Love, Like a Rolling Stone and Wild Thing all rule. Bob Dylan has always played All Along the Watchtower a la Jimi as he instantly realized that Jimi's version was better (otherwise he hasn't changed arrangements, never using jangly guitars on Mr. Tambourine Man for instance).

A lot of tie-age. I'm holding out until I can find at least a clip from "Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to…)" and "Sunshine of Your Love." I'm unfamiliar with both recordings.

'Death on Two Legs' is a put-down song just as vicious as Positively 4th Street -- positively.

There was actually a Queen song that encouraged suicide?
|
Johnny Dickshot Feb 08 2006 03:48 PM |
Queen's later hit "Bicycle Race" would rip this song off in some ways.

JHE leads 48.5-31.5. Queen will have to run the table on the next few votes, but haven't done better than .500 in any.

Johnny, I have to admit I'm not a big "All Along the Watchtower" fan, and that is one of the Jimi songs I thought in advance that I might not vote for, but the breathy singing in "Somebody to Love" just always annoyed me so I had no choice but to vote "Watchtower".

So I was doing a little Googlin' on Jimi and his Experience and I found this little nugget of info:
The British version is easy enough to find, just do a Google image search for 'Electric Ladyland' and there she is, or rather, there 'they' are. I would've posted the image myself but it is a tad risque. Interesting because the sanitized, American version (below) is thought of as a somewhat classic album cover. Is this news to anybody or is it well-documented and I'm the last know?

So that's what the album name means...

No, theres a front and a back - one big picture folded into two.

I think you're full of beans, it looks like three different ones. Maybe somebody else made their own version and that's what I"m seeing

Damn, can you say "find me an image of"?, this should not be deleted, a classic back cover.
