Great to work with clips. We're getting more sophisiticated every 9.39 minutes.

Good list Seawolf, although i would have expected 'Mam kin' in any Aerosmith top 10.

I'll be running out the same lineup that nearly took out Hendrix. Good luck. All clips at amazon, Queen's greatest, but for DOTL (song 1, Night at the Opera).

Let's get it on.

Don't Stop Me Now
Another One Bites the Dust
Bohemian Rhapsody
You're My Best Friend
Under Pressure
Somebody to Love
Fat Bottomed Girls
Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to…)
Keep Yourself Alive
We Will Rock You/We are the Champions

I'd have expected "Come Together," although, if you included that, the anal judge may have dismissed it as actually credited to the Future Villian Band.

Nuts. If I knew you'd keep the same order, I would have rearranged them to give Toys a better matchup.

Aerosmith 8, Queen 2.

Three judges in and it's Queen by a single point.

Again it's the matchup that didn't occur that intrigues me: "Dude Looks Like a Lady" vs. "I Want to Break Free"

Walk This Way vs. Don't Stop Me Now
I’m definitely more sick of the former (you are too), but I’ll give it to Aerosmith based on its influence and endurance.

Sweet Emotion vs. Another One Bites the Dust
Aerosmith goes up 2-zip on a song with a classic bass line, great drumming, and good harmonies

Toys In The Attic vs. Bohemian Rhapsody
I like “Toys” – it rocks, but it can’t stand up to one of the great recordings of our time. Queen gets on the board.

Train Kept A Rollin' vs. You're My Best Friend
Cranepoolian TKRollin (I always pronouce it as “rahl-lin”) would disagree, but Queens’s sweetness, harmonies and May’s tasteful, rollicking guitarwork beat the crap out of this one.

Janie's Got A Gun vs. Under Pressure
Janie should shoot herself. Queen takes a 3-2 lead.

Dream On vs. Somebody to Love
I like how the cover of the first Aerosmith LP had the words “featuring ‘Dream On’ actually printed on the cover and not affixed with a sticker on the shrink wrap. However wrong it may have turned out to be, to me that always said: “If the rest of this album turns out to be crap, which it just might be, we don’t know, and they do nothing else for the next 35 years, they’ll still always be the band that did ‘Dream On.’” Great accomplishment. Tied up at 3-3.

Last Child vs. Fat Bottomed Girls
Back In The Saddle vs. Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to…)

I’m afraid Aerosmith is going to suffer in this competition in my mind because I just don’t fall easily for the bluesy honkey-tonk thing they do, as evidenced by the above two entries from the ROCKS album.
Ironic that a song called Back in the Saddle would basically be Aerosmith’s last stand for the next decade+. It’s a question of taste, but I’m going to go for narrow Queen victories here, gaining 1.5 of the 2 overall points, or if you will .75-.25 victories in each contest.

Big 10" Record (live) vs. Keep Yourself Alive
An Aerosmith novelty song, basically standard blues. Queen again.

"One Way Street (clip) vs. "We Will Rock You/We are the Champions
Queen are the champions, my friend.

FINAL SCORE: Queen 6.5, Aerosmith 3.5

2 bands I have no special affinity for but my son listened to Queen and while I still think they are a second tier band, my disdain for them has turned around in recent years. Aerosmith started out, to me, like warmed-over Rolling Stones, which is not really a bad thing. They just have never moved me. This was the first Queen win for me in their various matchups.

"one of the great recordings of our time."

Um...let's not let our enthusiasm get out of handed. This is "Bohemian Rhapsody" we're talking about, a song that is popular because its histrionics make it a shoe-in with the ironic "so-bad-it's-good-crowd" not because its actually good.

What's always been amazing to me is that Aerosmith essentially built about 6 hit tunes into a 3+ decade long career.

I think that was probably the least controversial thing I said in the whole thread. By "great recording" I mean "great recording" -- like it or hate it, there's hardly any room to argue it's not a genuine accomplishment of sound and style. I happen to like it, though.

It predicted post-rock before rock was even established as a distinct thing from rock 'n' roll.
