A lot of good unused parody material there also.

To challenge all the way to number two is gutsy. You know the rule is that if you challenge up the ladder and lose on your intitial challenge, you fall to the bottom of the list. right?

This is pretty much why everyone initially goes after Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Lundy

No, I didn't know that rule.

I also didn't know the Doors were No. 2.

I just was looking for any band to challenge, and Sharpie was right there.

Black Cow vs. L.A. Woman -- Tie
Rikki, Don't Lose that Number vs. Love Her Madly -- Doors
Babylon Sisters vs. Soul Kitchen -- Doors
Deacon Blues vs. Light My Fire -- Doors
Hey Nineteen vs. Break On Through -- Doors
Do It Again vs. Hello, I Love You -- Steely Dan
Doctor Wu vs. Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar) -- Steely Dan
Bad Sneakers vs. Riders On the Storm -- Doors
Your Gold Teeth II vs. Love Me Two Times -- Doors
Aja vs. Roadhouse Blues-- Steely Dan

Again, a poor choice of songs. Where is "My Old School," (their best song) "Haitian Divorce," (a close second) "Don't Take Me Alive," "FM," "Show Biz Kids," or "Peg"?

Man, you can get whatever result you want by picking and choosing. With the right selections, the Beatles could lose to the Archies.

10 - 0 DOORS as well.

I would've thrown a vote 'Peg's way if she were there.

I always liked "Reeling in the Years", too.
I would have had a hard time picking my favorite Steely Dan songs too, because they're one of my favorites. Buddesavta (spelling, I am sure, is wrong) is great

I HATE Peg, it is my mother in laws name.

I'll refrain from voting on this one as I know maybe three of the Steely Dan stuff....

I remember the thirty-five sweet goodbyes
When you put me on the wolverine
Up to annandale
It was still september
When your daddy was quite surprised
To find you with the working girls
In the county jail
I was smoking with the boys upstairs
When I heard about the whole affair
I said oh no
William and Mary won’t do
Chorus:
Well I did not think the girl
Could be so cruel
And I’m never going back
To my old school

Oleanders growing outside her door
Soon they’re gonna be in bloom
Up in annandale
I can’t stand her
Doing what she did before
Living like a gypsy queen
In a fairy tale
Well I hear the whistle but I can’t go
I’m gonna take her down to mexico
She said oh no
Guadalajara won’t do

Chorus

California tumbles into the sea
That’ll be the day I go
Back to annandale
Tried to warn you
About chino and daddy gee
But I can’t seem to get to you
Through the u.s. mail
Well I hear the whistle but I can’t go
I’m gonna take her down to mexico
She said oh no
Guadalajara won’t do

Chorus

Some days it was hot enough that I could believe it was Mexico, not Virginia.

I guess "Sugar Sugar" could take out ""Revolution 9" and "Bang Shang-A-Lang" has a fighting chance against "Mr. Moonlight," but after that I'd guess the worst of the Beatles sweeps the best of the Archibalds.

That said, I agree that the Dan songs weren't the best possibilities, but I think I've felt that about just about everyone's selections. (I think sharpie has made most of the right selections with the Portals, but I don't particularly like them.)

I had Peg on the original list, but then realized I had left off Deacon Blues.

This is tougher than it looks.

"Black Cow" vs. "L.A. Woman"
Doors. I prefer “Peg” and “Josie” to the Aja selections here.

"Rikki, Don't Lose that Number" vs. "Love Her Madly"
Doors.

"Babylon Sisters" vs. "Soul Kitchen"
Dan.

"Deacon Blues" vs. "Light My Fire"
Pretty song for the Dan. On the board.

"Hey Nineteen" vs. "Break On Through"
Doors.

"Do It Again" vs. "Hello, I Love You"
Tie.

"Doctor Wu" vs. "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)"
Dan.

"Bad Sneakers" vs. "Riders On the Storm"
Tie.

"Your Gold Teeth II" vs. "Love Me Two Times"
Doors.

"Aja" vs. "Roadhouse Blues"
In the long sax part, the rhythm section builds the tension to the exact same point twice, with only one difference: Drummer Gadd fills an empty space by clicking his sticks the first time around; the other time he doesn’t. It’s all about him not doing it the second time that makes Aja great. Big win for Dan.

FINAL: DOORS 5, STEELY DAN 5. I’d also have liked to see a different collection of SD songs: I didn’t much like either entry among the ties.

Funny, I'm also a fan of 'The Dan', but might have picked 7 different

OK, let's call this sucka. Instead of showing the score by voter, which you can get by reading backwards in the thread, let's show it by matchup.
