What a great voice he had.
I had a chance to speak with the producer of NFL films (his name escapes me) just after John had passed away. I told him the story of when the great Bill Klem was umpiring a baseball game. The runner and the ball reached second base at the same time in a big cloud of dust. The second baseman applied the tag, then turned to Klem and asked "Is he safe or is he out"? Klem replied, "Son, he ain't nothing 'till I call it".
I then told the producer "To those of us who watch NFL Films, they won't be nothing anymore without John Facenda calling them".
He smiled and said "I'll pass that along to his family. They'll appreciate that".
