15 years ago today I married my most wonderful and excellent husband.

We got married quickly. We had been living together in Ohio and he had been looking for a job (because I have a previous marriage to a deadbeat and I said I wouldn't marry him if he didn't have a job). Someone he knew on FidoNet said that his company was hiring and the company flew him to Houston for an interview. They hired him. He proposed over the phone and we were married two weeks later. It was a Friday. On Monday he left for Houston with a U-Haul truck towing his car. I had to wait seven months before I could move to Houston because I had to deal with custody issues for my children.

The most unusual thing about the wedding was that we had apple juice in the chalice because no one had remembered to bring wine. We also jumped the broom and we still have the broom on our mantle. (It's one of those decorative ones you find at hobby stores that you're supposed to put flowers and ribbons and stuff on.)

Good incentive for him to find a job! Congratulations Annie.

Jumped the broom?

I remember seeing that on Roots thirty years ago! I didn't know that that custom continued.

Oh, and yes, congratulations! I didn't mean to post cultural commentary without also commending you on your 15 years.

Thanks everyone. We went out for a nice steak dinner (we're both dieting but we put the diets on hold). And I had the most incredible chocolate cake for dessert. It stood taller than....er....it was tall. And it wasn't a little sliver of cake, either, it was a regular slice. It was dense and moist and had someting like eight layers with chocolate cream filling between them. And the icing was so thick and chocolatey that it was almost solid.

And I now have my very own copy of Win Shares. He said, "It looked like an important stat book."
