So wassup with the new avatar homages for the Top 20 (I'm assuming Top 20; all I've seen is Yancy's)? It's going to cramp my style if I ever get that high.

I kinda like the homage avatars although I'd like to see it kept to only the top 20 or so. It's also good that the Seaver one was shrunk.

Not a fan of the double avatars.

But I do enjoy the one-time special creepy ones.

I see we loaded posts 1*, 41, 666 and 4141. Have we done 1986 yet?

* -- 1 should be the Mookie Wilson Memorial Leadoff Post, not the chick one, as nice and fruity as it is.

So what IS the story with these extra avatars?
I read that some are "under construction" but what's the overall plan?
- Why do some exist but not others?
- Is there to be one for every level?

Once upon a time there were avatars with players' faces at the higher levels.Then there were more. Brad and Angelina went to some exotic location, and the Islamic world got mad about a cartoon. Then Cheney shot a guy.

To pay tribute to the better players with avatars.
- Why do some exist but not others?
The better ones are for better players; and too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Some of the better players are still working out the legalities with us, though.
- Is there to be one for every level?
That's certainly not the plan.
I generally realize that one avatar sitting on top of another --- the house one over the personal one --- without a few pixels of padding between is a little awkward. Still, I consider this an upgrade and I'm committed to seeing it through.

These guys are 100.

The big surprise one-post-only avatars were and are, of course, huge. That was fun and funky when it squeezed up one thread at ezboard. Here and now, of course, when and where every post a peep does is updated when he or she reaches a new level, it squeezes up every thread that person has posted in.

That's compounded recently by (1) a lot of peeps reaching milestones around the same time, and (2) those peeps disappearing and not continuing to post, and therefore making the monster avatar vanish as soon as it came, which is also supposed to be part of the fun. I guess I should re-size the suckers.
