Can't sit the three-home run guy the game directly after his historic feat.

Edgy MD Jul 17 2015 04:10 PM Re: IGT #90 7/16 Hit The Cards Running |
I'm remembering Wally Backman having a 5–5 day back in 1985 and riding pine the next day.

I'm still a bit surprised. I like it. Mets baseball is back. yay! I thought the game was at 7 so the last hour was a tough one.

Keith is right on calling St. Louis "Pit City" in the summer. It is freakin hot.
|
Zvon Jul 17 2015 06:34 PM Re: IGT #90 7/16 Hit The Cards Running |

What was the joke there? Gary made it seem that there was more to the "pit city" nickname.

Edgy MD Jul 17 2015 06:42 PM Re: IGT #90 7/16 Hit The Cards Running |
Cardinal broadcast booth — also apparently unaware of the existence of Harper or Goldschmidt — started pimping Peralta for MVP.
|
Edgy MD Jul 17 2015 06:53 PM Re: IGT #90 7/16 Hit The Cards Running |
This dopey Missouri football player they're interviewing in the booth is driving me crazy. I've got to pay for the upgrade to get the SNY feed.

Run harder, Daniel Murphy.

Kolten Wong has a busy swing. Surprised to see him make such good contact.

Lance Link stinks. He got lucky when Duda decided to eat the ball. Announcers were telling about him hurting himself in previous games by not getting bunts down. Good teams, nuttin'.

Only Murphy would reach up for the flying bat while making the play. No other person walking this earth would do that. Conclusion? He's a special player.

The pace of this game as glacial almost from the very start - even the between innings gap seemed longer. So it's not surprising that it winds up as a 3-2, 8-1/2 inning game which broke the 3 hour mark. That stupid-ass replay review which a) shouldn't have been done and b) should have been confirmed in like 17 seconds, didn't help. I blame Tony LaRussa.

Edgy MD Jul 17 2015 09:23 PM Re: IGT #90 7/16 Hit The Cards Running |

Tajeiron, Castellanos, and possibly Lutz are the Las Vegas options. Chris Young made it until August 15 before getting released last year.

Frayed Knot Jul 18 2015 07:28 AM Re: IGT #90 7/16 Hit The Cards Running |

If you're watching via MLB.com don't you get your choice of feeds? Either way, spending a full inning interviewing a (supposedly amateur) quarterback during a baseball game is borderline criminal IMO. Say what you will about the inherent conflict of interest with the Wilpons owning SNY, they have kept their promise to not be hands-on controlling the content (Hello YES!) and having even a semi-independent outfit covering the games beats the hell out of what most teams have which is a station subservient to a corporate master -- in the case of the Cards' outlet it's under the FOX umbrella as are many teams, several others use a Comcast station. But if I tune in -- and PAY to tune in -- to watch a baseball game and instead wind up being ambushed by what is essentially a 20-minute commercial for their larger corporate interests (SEC Football - Coming Soon!!) I'd be throwing shit at the set. Short sideline interviews are one thing (I don't usually like them but I can handle the occasional one) but keep them short and don't act as if the ballgame no longer exists because you got 'an exclusive' (yeah, you and 40 other outlets) with the next hyped, exploited, and ultimately disposable flavor of the month teenager.
|
Edgy MD Jul 18 2015 08:21 AM Re: IGT #90 7/16 Hit The Cards Running |

You get your choice of radio feeds. For TV feeds you get your choice only if you pay for the package on the higher shelf. When it's Los Angeles or Milwaukee, I'm fine with that — or at least OK (the Mets booth are my friends). When it's St. Louis or Miami or Atlanta, I want to weep. The quarterback wasn't even a baseball fan and said as much. And they didn't even care very much about interrupting the interview to call a watered-down play-by-play. You pretty much nailed it as far as who they were subservient to. They didn't ask him so much about his personal game, but stuff like "What's it like to play in the SEC? What's this stadium like? What's it like going into the Swamp?" And I'm all, "Wtf is the Swamp and wtf cares? Baseball, gentlemen!!"

Frayed Knot Jul 18 2015 09:29 AM Re: IGT #90 7/17 Hit The Cards Running |
Hawk Harrelson is at least, Hawk. His act, while not everyone's cuppa tea, isn't an act at all, that's really him. (I actually don't mind him although I only hear it in small doses and I don't have any pro or con interests with the ChiSox).
