Here's a story 'bout Sandy A. and Cuddy's knee
Cuddy was getting treated with some Vitamin G
Some smartass fan signed him up for AARP
Sandy said, take the series and run!

NY Mets at Washington
When: 12:35 PM ET, Wednesday, July 22, 2015
Where: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
SportsDirect Inc.

The New York Mets have a chance to finish with a .500 mark on a six-game road trip against a pair of division leaders when they visit the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon in the rubber match of a three-game set. New York scored more than five runs for only the second time in 17 games to level the series with a 7-2 victory Tuesday.

The Mets are two games behind first-place Washington in the National League East with a four-game series looming against a third straight division leader in the Los Angeles Dodgers. New York finally came up with some clutch hits, going 5-for-15 with runners in scoring position Tuesday after stumbling through a 4-for-72 stretch in such situations over the previous nine games. Catcher Wilson Ramos broke out of a 2-for-26 slump with a two-run blast for the Nationals, boosting his career average against the Mets to .340 with nine homers and 37 RBIs in 45 games. Washington right-hander Jordan Zimmermann opposes rookie Noah Syndergaard in the series finale.

TV: 12:35 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (4-5, 3.05 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Jordan Zimmermann (8-5, 3.27)

Syndergaard suffered his first defeat in more than five weeks despite limiting St. Louis to two runs and five hits over seven innings on Friday night. The 22-year-old Texan struck out a career-high 13 and yielded one run over eight innings in a victory over Arizona in his previous turn, capping a five-start unbeaten stretch in which he allowed seven earned runs. He's had his issues on the road, going 0-4 with a 4.73 ERA.

Zimmermann's last outing resulted in a no-decision after four innings when the stadium lights went out, but he remained unbeaten over his past five turns. He permitted a total of five runs while going 3-0 over his previous four starts and has not lost since a 5-0 setback versus Tampa Bay on June 17. Zimmermann beat the Mets with six innings of one-run ball in his season debut to improve to 8-5 with a 2.91 ERA against them.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Mets RF Curtis Granderson is 9-for-27 with five runs scored during a six-game hitting streak.
2. Nationals CF Michael Taylor is 1-for-23 with 10 strikeouts over the past six games.
3. Mets RHP Bobby Parnell has not allowed a run in 12 of 13 appearances since returning from Tommy John surgery.

They'll say Flores has no errors at 2nd but he's really not much better over there as far as handling balls hit to him. I've seen him flub at least five plays at 2nd.

Thor gets out of it.

The rule is 100% subjective, so him calling it a strike literally makes it so.

yup. everyone out theer should becapable of 2+ innings, why go away from a guy who is pitching well? keep him out there and save the other guy for the next day. it all comes from the stupid Save rule and the consequent desire to have your anointed "closer" end 50 games instead of pitching 2 innings in 30 games and probably helping the team more.

Familia has a buttload of 1+ inning saves already this season, so its not like Terry's ruled by this philosophy. If anything I'm mad he didn't go for another while you guys seems to be arguing that Mejia should still have been pitching?

Re: IGT 07/22 - NYM at WAS -Gm 3• Take the Series & Run!

Too many damn walks!!

- Walking MdD constantly (plus a few others) added pitches and took away innings from Syndergaard. The first one (runners on 1st & 2nd - 2 out) seemed semi-intentional to load the bases for Zimmermannnn (questionable strategy IMO) but the rest weren't.
Come to think of it this was the case with Harvey in the first game. He pitched around Harper in the 1st inning and got burned by on a couple of cheap hits. But you're Matt Fuckin' Harvey dude and have a great (though small) record against Harper, go after him early in the game!!

- Then the Parnell walk to Ian Desmond fucked up the whole 8th. Desmond has power but he can't tie the game with the bases empty and pretty much suxx this year. Again, go after him!
But once he got on they were forced to play MdD deep in 'no doubles' so he dropped one in that Lagares normally puts in his pocket and things went straight downhill from there.

- Got screwed on both the Duda half-swing in the middle innings there somewhere and again on Kirk's called-strike 3 in the 9th.

- Played these guys close both in this series and in the season overall (overall stats are near identical) but we're now 2 games down to them in head-to-head and 3 down overall. Moral victories are NOT a consolation here.

Muffy losing a foul ball in the sun cost Syndergaard one of those walks, and a couple of pitches, but they turned out to be big ones by the end.

But at some point, whether its your first RP or your 5th, you need to retire 1 batter before 3 runs score and you win the damn thing. Parnell didnt get it done. Howie and Josh remarked on how hard Moore hit the ball when he made an out, that should have stirred TC.

Re: IGT 07/22 - NYM at WAS -Gm 3• Take the Series & Run!

There is no doubt that Parnell blew it. Let it be known in the valleys. And let it spread to the mountain tops.

The idea is that there is always X amount of pitchers who aren't going to have it on any given day, and so the fewer the number of pitchers you need to turn a game situation over to, the better the odds are for you.

And Terry, agreed, blew it by not hooking Parnell earlier. But he makes it ever-harder on himself to go to Plan B when Plan A involves four guys to get four innings. That's an insult to Andy Hassler.

I see a lot of blame to go around on this one. Parnell is the most obvious, but there were lots of opportunities missed in this one.

This struck me as a pretty sloppily played series by the Mets in some aspects. For all of the fanfare over how important this series was and for having the starters set up the way they wanted, it didn't seem as if the Mets played like a team trying (needing) to make a statement.

A 2 run lead in the 8th inning says otherwise, you can't claim we didnt score enough every time we lose. Sometimes it's on the pitchers too, like when they have a 2 run lead and 4 outs to get.

I would have signed up for 3 runs off Zimmerman in advance, wouldn't you?

Oh and let's not forget the cardinal sin of giving the opposing pitcher the first out of the game on a bunt. That's bad basebalI no matter who you are.

I agree with this estimate. It's almost as if they were more concerned about not looking too concerned (aside from Flores throwing his bat- which is lame).

I also must take more of the blame than I thought, which was zero. I was responsible for these games as thread barer. When it's my game I always wear a Mets jersey. I wore it last night. I hung it on the top of the door to remind me to put it on again today. I just tried to close the door and it wouldn't close because my jerseys up there. GAH!
I didn't wear the Mets jersey! :(

The rocket scientists at SNY couldn't figure out that the replay of this game would be less enjoyable on nights where they decide to simultaneously scroll the final score of today's game along the bottom of the screen.

btw, I propose a rule where if a manager loses a challenged call based on his belief that the runner who was safe by 19 feet was really out because his left toenail came off the bag for a milli-second during his slide, that said manager should:
a) be ejected
b) lose all his challenges for the rest of the year
c) be forced to manage the remaining games of the season in a pink skirt

Terry Collins says he is to blame for Wednesday’s loss

Terry Collins took full responsibility for Wednesday’s loss to the Nationals, while talking to reporters after the game.

“That’s all on me, that’s not on Bobby Parnell,” he said.

Collins said he should have had closer Jeurys Familia warming up in the bullpen sooner than he did, so he could have turned to him for more than a three-out save.

Instead, Collins stuck with his primary setup man, Parnell, who failed to hold a two-run lead in the eighth inning.

Familia pitched one inning the night before with the Mets up five runs in the ninth inning.

“It’s a big loss for us,” Collins concluded.

Mets have to be better prepared. They talk a great game about how they gotta beat these guys, get the best 3 lined up to go against them, but look like shit in the first game then Terry got caught sitting on his hands in the last one.
