Ken Oberkfell doesn't ring a bell as having been a Met.

Oberkfell was the bench coach during Terry's first season with the Mets, before the Mets grew unhappy with the bench's performance, and brought in Bob Geren.

What a weird card this is with Teddy wearing his Cardinals' home uniform at Shea, while the coachie hits fungos in his more appropriate road uniform in the background.

The DIY Alvarado cracks me up. Though to be fair, a lot of those mid 1980s retail box sets (IIRC, Topps and Fleer were the only ones that trotted them out) did have questionable selections in terms of matching up to whatever the set was called. League Leader, Rising Stars, Young Stars, etc.

I'll tell you what does look off on that '75 Martinez card: Shea's Upper Deck. In '75 it was green. I know that those deck colors faded from vibrant to dull over the years due to exposure and neglect, but not to that extent.

So if that Topps Vault photo's the original source, what enhancements were then done? Where's the enhanced photo? Also, do you want your Bob Miller '73 Padres card? If not, I'll give it to somebody else.

Its on the forum thread that I grabbed that image from. IDK how that particular one ended up in the picture Edgy grabbed for his reply, as the "original" in the thread does show Martinez in greys.

Sure, shoot me it as a PM, thanks!

You grabbed "that image", you just wrote. What image? What image is "that image" that you grabbed? The Martinez with the Topps watermark? I assume so. And if so, what does the topps vault watermarked image have to do with this thread? How are you connecting the topps vault image to this thread? And what enhancements (to that watermarked image, I assume, because why else would you post that picture?) were made, as you wrote yesterday? My head is spinning a little bit.

Scroll down to Amazin69's post, has an evolution of exposure techniques he did to make the gray of Martinez' uni appear white.

OOTP does great work. Initially I didn't think that was Ted's real autograph, but it is. That's a popular spot for Teddy-shoppin'.

Alvarado was done with the majors for about 10 years when that league leaders set came out.

I thought there was only one this time.

Shamsky's SABR Bio is rather extensive and somewhere in here
the author says he was cut in spring training from the Cards.

I think McCarver is a stretch, but I'm pretty sure he's not it.

There's two interlopers even though the thread title claims just one. Here's what happened. About 80% of this thread is comprised of the same baseball cards I posted when the Mets and Cards played earlier this season. Shamsky wasn't in that older thread, because, you know, he's not a Met-Card. While I was making this second thread, I suddenly remembered that Shamsky appeared on a Topps card as a Cardinal. I remembered this from that thread I started about a year ago -- Wolves in Sheep's Clothing -- on players who appeared on a Topps card as a member of a team other than the Mets while in a Mets uniform. (As an aside, I'd link to that thread for your benefit if only this search engine behaved anywhere near functional. But this searcher is by far, no question about it, nothing even remotely close, the worst search engine I've ever encountered on any web site. A search that shouldn't take more than 30 seconds, especially when I'm positive of the search terms that should turn up that thread, might take me 10 minutes, or even likelier, forever. So I'm not even bothering.) Anyways, after suddenly recalling that Shamsky Card card, I added it to this card thread, along with other cards, forgetting in that moment, that Shamsky's an interloper as far as this thread is concerned. And that's why the thread title announces one interloper when, in fact, there are two.

You got half the quiz. This entitles you to a Bob Miller '73 style Topps Padres card. If you identify the other interloper, you'll win a Kroger's 100th anniversary Keith Hernandez card.

I took liberties with McCarver, who's technically an interloper, but not for the purposes of this quiz. His strong contributions to Met history merit his inclusion. Tim's no Met outsider. In the past, I've included Ralph Kiner, Bob Scheffing, and probably some other technical interlopers that I've bestowed with honorary status for these card posts.

Thank you for your interest. We hope that you continue to enjoy this and all future card threads on this theme.

Re: Cards for the All Star Break (Plus one interloper)

I do enjoy it, and thank you! I like cross checking when I have
the time, even if it is 'cheating.'

As for the search, yeah it kinda sucks, but it's the version of
phpBB we're running. At least I'm blaming it on that. Upgrading
is required, The Senate shut us down, but it's a pain in the ass
and most everything else is working ok for now so we plod on.

I see what Edgy was talking about. The OOTP poster color corrected the Martinez pic to make the sky lighter, but in doing so, gave TM's road gray uniform a whitish home hue.
