The opening notes are familiar to Jeremy Brett's PBS Holmes series. Not exact tho. Interesting. That opening shot is also similar. This is going to be great.

|
Mets Willets Point Sep 20 2015 09:05 AM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |

The cliffhanger of the show is a total fakeout. My suspicion is that we're going to learn that The Doctor really DID save young Davros all along. The hint is in the conversation where Davros tells the Doctor that his weakness is compassion.
|
Zvon Sep 20 2015 02:18 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
||
That might make who-sense. Because it looked like he left him in that position...so how did he survive? If he even did--what's Davros's origin story? Does he look like an ancient dried up prune from being older than shit or did something else cause his deformity? So as far as I know he was somehow saved from the hand mines. If you're right maybe we'll see The Doctor arguing with The Doctor about what he intends to do. That would be pretty cool.

Ceetar Sep 24 2015 12:19 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
Well none of it was real right? Or is it real and he's trying to alter it?

Zvon Sep 24 2015 03:46 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |

You never know with Moffat. You using the word real reminds me of when I last saw Davros, with the reality bomb, which was a classic turn for him IMO. It's funny that we aren't at all concerned that Clara (& Missy) were killed. Because we know that it won't stay that way. Only a few hours after the episode aired I ran into this on tumblr. I think this internet business will never cease to amaze me. Ceetar Sep 24 2015 04:04 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
There's the idea too, that the Doctor can't possible pre-kill Davros with Dalak technology because such technology only exists if you don't kill Davros with it.
|
Zvon Sep 24 2015 04:08 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
|
Wouldn't it go that he would take the shot and then moments after the Dalek pea-shooter would dissolve into nothingness?
|
Mets Willets Point Sep 25 2015 09:54 AM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
I'm still convinced that he shoots the hand mines and saves young Davros and his shame is due to failing to prevent Davros from turning into a monster.

caught up. Wasn't in love with the episode or anything, favorite part was the "I. Am. A. Dalak!" bits. I kept expecting the Doctor to reference the first time was saw Clara though.

Zvon Sep 29 2015 02:18 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |

Clara's debut story did occur to me too. After all that Clara's been thru it can get a bit confusing. There's no chance that could be in this Clara's future,...right? Lets nail down Clara's story 1. She debuts as a Dalek. 2. She jumps into the Doctor's timeline and saves him throughout time. 3. The Doctor (Smith) saves her and runs into the War Doctor (Hurt). 4. Clara continues on with The Doctor after his most recent regeneration. 5. Meets the Phys Ed teacher, falls in love. 6. Loses Danny Pink, meets the New Master. 7. Becomes part of Britain's Doctor Alert System Fatten that out.

When I read this I thought: there were a lot of hands there. But he did shoot em all. Good call. "Now come on, I'll take you home." The kid playing young Davros was excellent in his role. Also, this should be on the Clara list: >Missy gives Clara (off screen) a phone number to the TARDIS. Ever since, there have been clues that this same mystery woman, later revealed as Missy, has been working very hard to keep the Doctor and Clara together.

I recognized Pretty Woman but that's about it. My brother was reeling off song names- he said the opening notes are Van Halen. I was hoping to confirm what he was saying. I got a kick out of the cards last week Under The Lake. [fimg=400]https://41.media.tumblr.com/0c9be70bf8fe9ea1094ce9a37e679b4d/tumblr_nvu27vMEvo1s6e0s4o2_1280.jpg[/fimg]

Lake/Flood had some good bits, but the second part didn't seem to live up to the promise of the first. It's like they had a lot of good ideas but didn't follow up on them. Still serviceable, basic Doctor Who. Looking forward to Maisie Williams next week.

Zvon Oct 11 2015 03:28 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
Good two parter. Yea, basic Who.
|
Zvon Oct 25 2015 05:31 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
I really like where this is going. Well, can't say that because I have no idea where it's going. But I like what's going on with Ashildr. What a great character. I hope they stretch out that story arch as long as possible.
|
Vic Sage Oct 26 2015 08:05 AM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
loved this one; the impact of immortality on a human soul. Maisie is great; anytime i get to see Arya i''m happy. A great addition to the Whovian family.
|
Mets Willets Point Oct 26 2015 10:26 AM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
Maisie Williams is so talented. The costuming and the faux medieval setting of the first part were similar to Game of Thrones, yet she played Ashildr so convincingly different from Arya. I hope she has a long, fruitful acting career.

So, the Zygons stand in for immigrants and refugees in a not-at-all subtle metaphor for a topical subject. Good action-packed episode, but I'm waiting to see how the second-part plays out to determine how much I like it.

Wow, that knocked my socks off. This two-parter is the best story of the season so far, imho. Some spectacular acting from Capaldi & co.

|
Vic Sage Nov 30 2015 01:58 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
I'm glad Clara is dead. Of course, her death would've been a lot more meaningful if her character ever made a lick of sense, and if she had any rapport with the current doctor, which she didn't.
|
Mets Willets Point Nov 30 2015 02:32 PM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
|
Interesting indeed. On the one hand, I don't like stories that are too continuity-heavy and attempt to fill in too much of the mystery of the Doctor's past and Gallifrey. On the other hand, if they're going to tell that story, this is way to do it with some spectacular writing, acting, and directing.

|
Zvon Dec 07 2015 12:45 AM Re: The Doctor = Negligent Grandfather |
More than fantastic. Brilliant the way it all tied together. Now this was a proper send-off for Clara. And I'm glad she's taking the long way around. Yea, a spin-off, or at least an adventure or two. From Gallifrey back to the old TARDIS in a superbly crafted episode. So many great things. The extended look at The Doctor's home planet and some more historical background added. "Get off my planet!" Ha! So that makes him President of Gallifrey and Earth.

I liked that. This link is to a nice Whovian Christmas story about a sick boy in the hospital. There's also some great little videos (esp series 9 in 81 seconds) but WARNING, there are also SPOILERS about the X-mas/River ep coming up that I wish I didn't see (I didn't read anything but there are some telling images). But read the first thing on the page about Who cast members visiting this kid and watch those clips. Osgood is awesome. I love her. Capaldi does his own sound effects. Christopher Eccleston comes out of the woodwork (Hi! Nine here!).
