You've been trapped on your desert island for a year now, keeping the native foo at bay with a song from the earlier thread, but the foo are now evolving, and you are forced to take to the highland and resort to a song from the Foo Fighters second career phase, a period beginning with 1999's There Is Nothing Left to Lose through part of 2003's One by One. "It's a good thing this band is so prolific," you think, "as I may be looking at a long stint on this island."

I'm a "Learn to Fly" man. If anybody else had come out with that, it would have been a hit, but a disposable one. But a song of hope from a grunge veteran about pulling back on the stick as you're about to nose dive into a mountain sort of helped save rock from itself — from the idea that the only authentic path left in rock was Cobain's.

I get the "Learn to Fly" point you're making; it feels a little more heartfelt than it probably should, absent context.
