NY Mets at Miami
When: 7:10 PM ET, Wednesday, August 5, 2015
Where: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
SportsDirect Inc.

The first-place New York Mets seek their sixth straight victory when they finish a three-game series in Miami on Wednesday. Every starter had a hit and Jonathon Niese was sharp through seven innings as the Mets picked up a 5-1 win Tuesday, improving to 8-4 against the Marlins and maintaining a one-game lead over Washington in the National League East.

While New York has scored 17 runs through the first two games of the series, it has been riding its dominant pitching staff of late. Niese was the ninth Mets starter in the last 10 games to allow two earned runs or fewer, and the bullpen has thrown 11 1/3 scoreless innings during the winning streak. Matt Harvey will attempt to keep that run going as he gets the start against punchless Miami, which has been held to one run or fewer five times during a 2-10 swoon. New York is 1-5 in Harvey's six career starts against Miami, as the star right-hander has a 4.14 ERA in those meetings, his highest against a division opponent.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Matt Harvey (9-7, 2.91 ERA) vs. Marlins RH David Phelps (4-7, 3.93)

Harvey allowed a run in 7 2/3 innings - his longest start since May 29 - in a no-decision against Washington on Friday. It was his fourth straight start of at least seven frames and left him with a 1.86 ERA over his last eight outings. The 26-year-old has allowed eight runs in 14 innings over two starts against Miami this season.

Phelps is 0-3 with a 3.57 ERA in four starts since returning to the rotation last month after a brief spell in the bullpen. He has three no-decisions with a 2.70 ERA against the Mets in 2015 and has a 3.40 mark in 10 games (seven starts) at home. Mets infielder Daniel Murphy is 4-for-9 with a double against Phelps while newcomer Yoenis Cespedes is hitless in seven at-bats versus the 28-year-old.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Mets RF Curtis Granderson has reached safely in 19 straight games while batting .316 with 14 runs and 12 RBIs.
2. Marlins 2B Dee Gordon is batting .463 during a 10-game hitting streak against the Mets.
3. New York acquired LHP Eric O'Flaherty from Oakland on Tuesday for a player to be named later.

From above ^^^

"Niese was the ninth Mets starter in the last 10 games to allow two earned runs or fewer, and the bullpen has thrown 11 1/3 scoreless innings during the winning streak."

Colon's previous start is the only bad one in the bunch for the starters. For the pen the scoreless streak goes back to the debacle in the rain vs SD.

Re: I.G.T 8/5/15 Harvey Day Fish @ Mets Harvey v. Phelps

David Phelps. Man, it's not like this team has bad players (although they certainly are a little short of good ones), they just don't seem to have any character. A bunch of veteran extras from other teams who just ended up in South Florida by virtue of gravity.

At the start of the season, they seemed to have a pitching staff (with their best guy coming back) to rival the Mets and Nats, and they had Stanton and three or four young and impressive hitters, and a lot of people were backing them as the division's dark horse. Right now, they look like an expansion team.

Suddenly a top four which looks fairly formidable.
As opposed to, say two months ago, when those same four were probably best described as: Suxx, Absent, Elsewhere, and Lost.

It's 7-0 after 5, if Harvey is on any kind of innings limit following Tommy John surgery, should he be yanked here?

He was at less than 60 pitches as this inning started - which is about standard for four innings of work, so he's OK for now.
Don't want to overwork the pen either.

tonight's pitch count isnt the point, he could be at 25 through 2 inings and i'd pull him if we led 25-0, IF there is an innings limit for the season. if there is no innings limit then i have no issue, but if there is then he shouldnt be left in for low-leverage innings on the rare occasions that blowouts develop. same goes for Syndergaard if he has a limit.

But all innings aren't created equal, so if tonight's seven are more like five regular innings then it's not a big deal.
Bottom line is it's more like a general innings target than a hard and fast limit so one or two extra pitched now doesn't necessarily mean one or two fewer down the road.

Not to make too many excuses for the pen - but there was like one maybe two hard hit balls that inning. Everything was finding holes.

Not exactly a great debut by O'Flaherty (I'm going to start calling him MIV - easier to type). Again lots of soft stuff finding holes, but the disturbing part was that it was all vs LHBs

And the good news, just as the Mets were closing it out Welington Castillo was hitting a 3R HR to make it 8-2 Snakes.

I lost the signal while driving home. It was first and third with 2 outs in the ninth. I wish they'd get a station with a signal that's strong toward the North. Had to drive an additional 35 minutes home before I found out the score.
Phew!
That game had an asshole pucker power factor (APPF) of 9.6.
