Going to the game...

... on Friday, with the family. It looks like Harvey v the Nats.

yeah, but the family tired and we left by the 10th. damn it. I need to go to games alone.

Best game I've ever been to at CitiField. In fact, other than the No-Hitter I can't think of another game I would have rather seen.

Edgy MD Aug 02 2015 01:40 PM Re: Going to the game... |
Best thing about this, though, is that the Mets finally have a lineup that might cause a manager to have the occasional dilemma.
Fman99 Aug 02 2015 09:51 PM Re: Going to the game... |
If the current five man rotation holds true for the next two weeks, Fboy and I will be at the Sunday Aug 16 matinee against Pittsburgh, which should shape up as a Harvey day.
Fman99 Aug 04 2015 08:03 PM Re: Going to the game... |
Now it's sounding like there will be a call up for a start next week, pushing Colon/Niese to the Saturday/Sunday starts. In that case we will be there for the Sunday matinee to see Niese, sad to not catch one of the kids over the course of those two games.

We will keep you in the loop, for sure. It'd be great to coax some other CPF'ers out for a "hello," I know SJR is always good for a brewski each time I see him at the park. It'd be great to see if Irish and Lorcan could join us as well.

Him and that beautiful scoreboard that I expect to be filled with home team goose eggs.
Fman99 Aug 05 2015 08:31 PM Re: Going to the game... |
Now the broadcasters are suggesting that the Mets may wait to call up the 6th man in the rotation until after the Pittsburgh series, meaning we WOULD get to see Harvey pitch that Sunday. Which would be preferable.

Gwreck Aug 27 2015 10:57 PM Re: Going to the game... |
You have to print. Not every ballpark has the technology to read the barcodes off the screen.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 27 2015 11:24 PM Re: Going to the game... |
Print. Met gatestaff seem to have intermittent problems with sunny-afternoon scanning of smartphone screens, in my experience.
Ceetar Aug 28 2015 08:57 AM Re: Going to the game... |
yeah. I mean, technically as long as it's a barcode you can scan it at the gate, as you've been able to do for years and years, (turn the brightness down on the screen helps I think) but I can be flighty and they don't really guarantee it I don't think unless you're using the iPhone iPassport app or whatever that's called.
Mets Willets Point Aug 28 2015 09:34 AM Re: Going to the game... |
I selected the smartphone tickets for the game I went to in April because it would be "faster." Instead, the ticket taker had to scan my phone, print out a ticket, and then scan that ticket. And repeat four times, because there were five of us. It was ridonculous. So much for technology.
Ceetar Aug 28 2015 09:42 AM Re: Going to the game... |
as usual, this is at least partly a 'PEBKAC' (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair) error. You CAN scan the phone but likely due to the refraction through the glass screen the margin for error is small and most people (you scan yourself at many of the turnstiles) give up before adjusting the phone/angle/distance correctly.
Mets Willets Point Aug 28 2015 09:47 AM Re: Going to the game... |
But he DID scan the phone. Five times! But instead of just letting us through the turnstiles, it printed a ticket.
Ceetar Aug 28 2015 09:57 AM Re: Going to the game... |
even dumber. those scanners probably use slightly different technology that makes it easier I guess? (from what I understand, LED versus laser scanner)

Benjamin Grimm Sep 02 2015 12:34 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I have just registered "for the possibility of being selected for the opportunity to purchase tickets, subject to availability, for potential New York Mets 2015 Postseason games at Citi Field."
Ceetar Sep 02 2015 12:38 PM Re: Going to the game... |
sounds funny, but it's actually not redundant. 'possibility' not everyone wins the lottery. 'opportunity' you don't have to buy. 'subject to availability' they're probably only selling like 17 tickets, so even if you win they might be sold out. 'potential' Lottery is for all games any non-eliminated NL team has a chance of playing, whether or not they do.
TransMonk Sep 02 2015 02:20 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I just registered as well. Getting (winning) the opportunity to go would require taking off work, a plane ride and a hotel stay (i.e., many more $$$ than just the tix alone), but who knows when the next chance may be?
Benjamin Grimm Sep 02 2015 02:28 PM Re: Going to the game... |
Even if I am selected, I'm not certain that I'd go. But I can't not throw my hat in the ring!
TransMonk Sep 02 2015 02:38 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I'm close enough to Chicago or even St. Louis that attending a playoff game in one of those cities is not out of the question for me. But I would much rather be rooting for the home team with tens of thousands doing the same as opposed to being one of a handful of visiting fans in the den of the enemy.
Centerfield Sep 12 2015 10:22 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I'll be going to the game this Monday. The game might not have much meaning, but it will be fun to welcome them home from the road trip that effectively clinched the division.

We grabbed tickets for the 23rd (a rare mutual night off, with no school-- thanks to Yim Kippur and Eid-- on either side of the evening), so I'm kinda hoping for the Nats to play a LITTLE better over the next week or so.
Ceetar Sep 13 2015 10:00 AM Re: Going to the game... |
I'll probably be at that one. Got tacit approval from my baby-rearing coworker and the Mets are doing some sorta of beerfest so I feel professional obligation. i MAY try to get Sophie another game in, which would be the very last game of the year if so. Playoff lottery results are in Monday to see if I have the option to go to any of those.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 14 2015 09:15 AM Re: Going to the game... |

Oh well. I'm not sure I would have taken advantage even if I was selected. (I would definitely have been tempted...) I'm content to watch on TV.

Unless they're sending out wins after losses, I'm out too for the myriad of entries I put in. (still got hopes with the 7 line.) And of course, NLCS/WS drawings, for presumably less seats
Benjamin Grimm Sep 14 2015 03:50 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I see you can get guaranteed 2015 postseason tickets if you put down a $500 deposit on a 2016 season ticket plan.
Ceetar Sep 14 2015 03:57 PM Re: Going to the game... |
Not in the day and age of StubHub. But.. if you're really ambitious, the pricing on tickets for plan holders is good because it includes a 10% discount and less fees than you get on single game seats unless you buy at the stadium. It wouldn't be that hard to resell them. (which is going to happen, scalpers WILL be doing this. means more volume for us on the secondary market next year) you're better off going $250 deposit for 20 games though, unless you actually plan to live at Citi next year. You don't get all the postseason games, but you'll get there, and $250 could cover all, or most, of your plan and it's much less work to try to resell those.
sharpie Sep 17 2015 09:29 AM Re: Going to the game... |
So now I've been to four games this year, which is more than in probably the last 10 or 12 years. All within the last six weeks.

The MLB At-Bat app can track your games/record. I wonder if the Mets tapped into this data before sending out playoff lottery invites ;-)

I think I saw on FB that TMF got tix for 2 games(?). I'm eyeing game 3 in LA if things hold.
TransMonk Sep 29 2015 12:49 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I mulled a trip to both NYC and LA and the purchase of scalped tix and see one of the games. My biggest problem is not knowing yet who is going to have home field advantage in that series and being able to take time off and book travel on the right dates ahead of time. The longer it remains up in the air, the less likely I will go.
themetfairy Sep 29 2015 12:49 PM Re: Going to the game... |
D-Dad and I actually got the whole postseason strip. Hoping to use those World Series tickets in November!
Benjamin Grimm Sep 29 2015 01:15 PM Re: Going to the game... |
If the Mets are at Citi Field on Saturday for Game 2, I'm sure I'll check the StubHub prices (if any tickets are available) but I suspect I'll find that they'll cost much more than I'd want to spend.
Ceetar Sep 29 2015 01:32 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I can't afford the 3x markup that's currently floating around for NLDS tickets. Maybe if they pop out a second chance drawing. Or if we both win to the NLCS.
A Boy Named Seo Sep 30 2015 01:33 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I remember paying $45 or something for '99 Game 1 NLDS tix (Fonzie grand slam game) and it was like a markup from like $18 bucks and they were decent.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 30 2015 01:40 PM Re: Going to the game... |
They're selling tickets before they know which games the Dodgers will be hosting?
seawolf17 Sep 30 2015 01:43 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I'm pretty sure that's exactly how it works. You're getting tickets for the third game in that stadium, if and when it happens.
Ceetar Sep 30 2015 01:51 PM Re: Going to the game... |
I believe I paid $50 for the NLCS in '99. 2006 NLDS game 2, Loge Reserved, section 4, row J were $55 each. 2006 LCS HOME GAME 4 UR section 4 row Q 5-8 were $75 each. in 2008 MR 33 Row 'P' were $57 after fees. you purchase tickets for HOME GAME 1, or HOME GAME 3.
Benjamin Grimm Oct 01 2015 08:14 AM Re: Going to the game... |
I just checked StubHub for "Home Game 2" at Citi Field. Standing Room Only tickets are selling in the $130 range. Promenade outfield seats start around $150 each. Field level box seats are around $400 each.
Ceetar Oct 01 2015 08:18 AM Re: Going to the game... |
technically. Though there would probably be 4 games versus maybe only 2-3, so spreads it out more. The base ticket will be a little higher, but those are already at least 3x marked up so you might not actually get that much higher for NLCS (at least in advance, coming home for game 6 and 7 is murkier)
Benjamin Grimm Oct 01 2015 08:27 AM Re: Going to the game... |
It sounds like you're assuming that the Wild Card team will advance. If the Cardinals win the NLDS then the Mets would only have games 3, 4, and 5 of the NLCS at home.
Ceetar Oct 01 2015 08:43 AM Re: Going to the game... |
I am assuming that yes. Screw the Cardinals. Right now the Mets are still only guaranteed one home playoff game. Though probably 2. with the LCS you'd get at least 2, probably 3, but you're guaranteed none (you can actually purchase those tickets, but the supply is super low cause they're not on sale yet, these are just season ticket/plan people) They go on sale before the end of the first series though, and people are going to be less likely to buy for a series that might now happen. The draw of 'this is going to be game 6, at home, against the Cubs with a chance to clinch' is a much bigger thing.

I will not be there tonight but would warn all who intend to go -- DO NOT underestimate how frigging cold it will be. Subtract 20 degrees from a as cold as you think it is. LGM

Ain't that the truth! I don't what it is about that little area there but it's always so much colder than advertised. Hopefully there will be decent cell service (probably not with all those people) but don't forget to check in on the IGT all you game goers! Let's GO METS!!

Mets Willets Point Oct 17 2015 01:45 PM Re: Going to the game... |
The only playoff game I ever attended was 2000 NLCS game 4. Sat in the Mezzanine back rows where the overhang gave a "letterbox effect" to the sightlines. I remember the Mets hit 4 straight doubles to start the game, and everyone would jump up to cheer and then bend their necks down so they could see what was happening.

my battery was shot and my backup battery is busted apparently. oops. my first October game at Citi but I didn't imagine it much differently than Shea (or Citi in March/April). it's cold.
G-Fafif Oct 18 2015 01:12 AM Re: Going to the game... |
It was, as the meteorologists say, fucking cold, but manageable. Just wear two to three of everything and you're good.

'Letterbox'. Perfect way to describe the view from those seats. Great view of the field but once the ball rose above the player's heads, forget it. No idea where it was unless you watched the fielders moving towards it. As to postseason attendance, my first game was Game 5, 1981 WS in L.A. The game where Gossage beaned Cey. I think I've been to at least one game of every Mets postseason series since except '86. Didn't get a chance to get to any of those. Worst one was Game 5, 2000 WS.

Ah, the Mezz Cave. Worst seats in the whole building. I sat in 'em for a playoff game in '99 iirc. I was also at that multi-double game.
Frayed Knot Oct 20 2015 09:02 AM Re: Going to the game... |
Yeah, that was the 'warm' game (76 degrees at first pitch acc to BB-Ref) even though it was a week after the Bobby Jones one-hitter when it was cold as shit (52 claims the same source but you & I were up high for that one and were taking the full brunt of the wind on the backs of our necks the whole time).
Benjamin Grimm Oct 20 2015 09:05 AM Re: Going to the game... |
On my first-ever visit to Shea, in 1971 when I was eight years old, we had seats deep under the overhang in the Mezzanine. We couldn't see the sky or the scoreboard. My mother raised a stink (she could be good at that!) and got us moved to better seats, I think in the Upper Deck behind home plate, but not too far back.
Centerfield Oct 20 2015 09:07 AM Re: Going to the game... |
I can't believe you guys are complaining about bad seats. Did you see my seats at Wrigley in the other thread?

You should have worked for Baker & McKenzie -- they have a nice suite at Wrigley.

I was at the multi-double game as well, in the last row of section 46 (44?) in the upper reserved. Literally the highest seats in the major leagues at the time.

Is that next to Abe Froman's suite? *Bah dum ching* The rear seats of the Loge section were no picnic either if I'm remembering right. I miss Shea, dump that it was.

Friend of mine got tix through work. They are supposed to be so he can schmooze clients, but he took me instead. And I love him for it. I actually like to watch at home too. The bathrooms are less crowded and the beer is way cheaper. I'd feel different if I was a short subway ride away though.

"Insanely" is probably the more accurate adjective. Even if bought on the secondary market before Game 4 of the NLDS and resold 3 days later you would have doubled your money.
