"Mets Fans Deserve Standing O"

Buster Olney's column today (only first two paragraphs are in front of the ESPN insider paywall).
"It was largely the passion of Mets fans -- their declared frustration, their anger -- that drove their team's front office to make key changes in Queens."

Lucas Duda has clubbed nine homers in the past eight games; the golden-armed Noah Syndergaard seems he’s been transformed out of a comic book; and the ebullient Juan Uribe is exactly the right player at the right time for the New York Mets. But anybody who watched or experienced what happened at Citi Field in recent days knows that not one of those players is the real star in the Mets’ surge to first place.

No, the agents of changes for the Mets occupy the seats -- their fans, who have emerged from a restless hibernation and have shaken off their perpetual grumpiness to drive a team suddenly filled with hope, a team now in a virtual tie with Washington for first place after a sweep of the Nationals.

Not sure that I buy all that - but it makes for a good story even if only partially accurate.

How about some ethically lax person repost his article here so the Mets loving chiselers can enjoy it?

Last night was a great night at Shea. The article? Not so great.

There's been some strangely self-serving arguing in recent days, switching from the nothing's-gonna-happen-Mets-suck perspective to the something-only-happened-because-we-dared-them-by-saying-nothing's-gonna-happen-fans-rool! perspective. That's leaving out, for the moment, that the that the Cespedes trade had relatively little concrete impact on the Mets' sweep.

True, but Friday night and the whole Flores story was basically made possible by the fans making him cry in the first place.

We made him cry with love, though. Love and misinformation.

He will be OUR Jeter, making the players around him better.
And when he does, how many New York writers do you think will use that analogy, instead of writing that when you put a good hitter in any lineup, it improves the offense?
