Colorado slugger Carlos Gonzalez has struggled in the first three games of the series, going 1-for-11 after enjoying a 6-for-17 stretch with four homers and nine RBIs in his previous four contests. TV: 12:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York) PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Eddie Butler (3-9, 5.50 ERA) vs. Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (6-6, 3.01) Butler saw his losing skid reach four games on Saturday after permitting four runs on eight hits in six innings of a 6-1 setback to Washington. The 24-year-old has struggled mightily at night, posting a 1-7 mark with a gaudy 6.75 ERA and 1.96 WHIP while allowing the opposition to bat .337 against him. Butler, who will be making his 19th career start, has yet to face the Mets in his short time in the majors. Syndergaard has found a safe haven at Citi Field, posting a 6-1 mark with a 1.57 ERA in eight appearances this season. The 22-year-old right-hander looks to rebound after a tough outing on Saturday, yielding five runs on eight hits in four innings of a 5-4 setback to Tampa Bay. Syndergaard had allowed eight runs in his previous seven starts (50 innings), recording a 4-1 mark in that span. WALK-OFFS: 1. Colorado SS Jose Reyes has hit safely in each game of the series versus his former team and eight of his last nine contests overall. 2. New York OF Yoenis Cespedes belted a solo homer on Wednesday, marking the first time he went deep since he was acquired from Detroit on July 31. 3. Rockies 2B DJ LeMahieu is 5-for-12 in his last four games after an 0-for-9 stretch in his previous three.

Considering the state of the Rox pitching staff, 4, 3, & 4 runs in the series so far (most of that off the bullpen) isn't exactly teeing off. But this Butler guy plain isn't very good -- 3-9; 5.50 ERA; 95 hits in 75 innings; .937 OPS-A; more walks than strikeouts (41 to 40), etc. -- and it's not like his road stats are much better than his home, so this afternoon would be a nice time to bring the lumber and not have to count on late inning runs vs the pen. Btw, once again we've got a manager (Weiss) who has seen his starters give up just 4 runs over 18 IP in this series but has lost all three because his pen has been torched for 7 runs in 6 innings without ever turning to his supposed best reliever, newly installed closer Tommy Kahnle. And the funny thing is that if he wasn't just recently (like last week) dubbed with the title 'Closer' we possibly could have seen him in all three games so far. Maybe that changes things, maybe not, but if he's their hot hand right now I kind of like the fact that we've kept his ass nailed to the bench.

NEW YORK -- First baseman Lucas Duda remains sidelined for a third straight day as the New York Mets complete a series against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon. Duda has been dealing with back discomfort. He was given medication by team medical personnel late Wednesday, manager Terry Collins said. "There's a concern," Collins said. "... He got some medicine last night. The trainers and doctors feel that in another 24 hours they'll have a better determination of if it's going to work and how he's going to feel. "He doesn't feel much better today than he did yesterday. The one thing I'm not going to do is aggravate it to the point where it bothers his swing." Collins said it is important to have Duda in the lineup this weekend against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Still, Collins acknowledged, Duda could land on the disabled list within a couple of days if the medication does not help his back, since it is difficult to play shorthanded.

Wow ... an actual good sac bunt!! Our bunting average is 1-fer-2 today. Syndergaard bunted one attempt foul in an earlier AB. Overall this year I think it's down under .100

People talk about appreciating the beauty of a 1-0 game. I don't think enough appreciation is given to 12-3 blowouts where you abuse your opponents' bullpen.

I think it makes his swing longer and is causing him to struggle. I don't remember him doing that before he got hurt.

Just keep putting up Ws in the eastern time zone while the Nats are out west knowing the best they can do is match. They hit SF tonight for the first of four. P.S. Blue Jays do the same this afternoon in advance of the Yanx game in Cleveland tonight.
