Jacob deGrom goes for his team-high 11th victory as the New York Mets kick off a nine-game road trip on Tuesday night with the first of two interleague contests against the Baltimore Orioles. The Mets, who hold a 4 1/2-game lead over Washington atop the National League East, will be trying to rebound after getting swept at home in a three-game series versus Pittsburgh. DeGrom is unbeaten over his last six starts, not allowing a run in half of them to lower his ERA to 2.03 - second in the majors to Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Orioles opened a 10-game homestand with a four-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics to snag the second wild card in the American League. Seldom-used designated hitter Steve Clevenger followed up Sunday's four-hit performance with the second homer of his career, a three-run shot in Monday's 4-2 victory that moved Baltimore five games over .500 for the first time since July 2. Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman, who has pitched at least seven innings in three of his past four starts, will oppose deGrom. TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), MASN (Baltimore) PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Jacob deGrom (11-6, 2.03 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (2-4, 4.48) DeGrom matched his season high with four walks last time out, but he more than compensated by striking out 10 and limiting Colorado to two hits over seven scoreless innings. It was the fifth quality start in as many outings since the All-Star break for deGrom, who is 2-0 and has permitted a total of six runs in that span. Since losing his first three decisions away from home this season, deGrom is 5-1 over his last seven road starts. Gausman struck out eight and yielded three runs over seven innings in his last outing, but it went for naught as the Orioles were no-hit by Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma. He was tagged for six runs in 5 2/3 innings by the Los Angeles Angels in his previous turn, which followed a pair of solid outings in which he gave up two runs over 14 2/3 innings. Gausman is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in six appearances (three starts) at home. WALK-OFFS: 1. Mets 1B Lucas Duda (back), who has not started the past six games, is hoping to be back in the lineup Tuesday. 2. Orioles C Matt Wieters (strained right hamstring) has sat out five straight games but is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday. 3. The Mets are targeting next Monday as the return date for 3B David Wright (back), who has been sidelined since April 14.

I saw the Mets play the Orioles at Baltimore in 1997, my first MLB game as an adult after a long absence from going to games. I still think of Camden Yards as the "new stadium" even though there are now 20 younger ballparks in MLB.

- Machado is real good - They just obtained Parra from the Brews at the deadline - Jones is real good - Davis is back on an 'On' year after going from .283 w/53 HRs in 2013 to .196 w/26 plus a drug suspension in 2014. Has a 2nd-best in ML 34 this year including 15 since the ASB [u:ob6895mu]and has had FOUR others taken away from him[/u:ob6895mu] by fence-leaping OFs -- http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2015/08/18/143 ... illy-burns -- including one last night and two on consecutive days in early July. - Weiters is back after a myriad of injuries (including TJS) though may never morph into the combo offensive/defensive monster once projected for him - Schoop (pronounced SCOPE) is pretty darn good himself since taking over the pretty much everyday 2B role in July. Real good defensively too. - Clevenger spent most of the year in AAA, was recently brought up to be their 3rd catcher / 1B / DH - Hardy is a low-OBP/decent power guy who at least used to have a good glove but turns 33 tomorrow. Was one of many SS speculated about here last winter. - Urrutia is a guy I just heard of as I was typing this sentence. A 28 y/o Cuban singed by the O's in 2012. Just brought up after spending most of 2013-2015 in AA & AAA with decent results. - Gaussman was a former #4 overall pick by Bal'mer in 2012. Relieved the first half of the season, has been starter the last 8 times through the rotation: 1-4

From a depth and matchup perspective, the Mets should do pretty well going forward using the DH against the AL boys.

Yeah, total 7 Line Army act on my right. Not my kind of scene (at least, anymore), but they mostly do it right. Forgot my appreciation of the Oriole Park DJ. Mostly 80s fare, but he just went totally off-book by playing "Misfit Kid" by the Cars from Panorama. Now he or she is spinning "Dr. Robert." S As I sit and type, I get a segue to "Do It Clean" by Echo. Be my BFF, Oriole DJ. Shit. Delayed start just announced. (And Ryan "Church of the Poison Mind" comes on.)

Just as he was rounding third he got the green light and you could see he kicked it up a notch. So Flores does have a third gear, one that I have not seen until most recently. If I'm gonna rag on his running I'm going to have to be fair and say great running there Wilma.

Nats having their problems out in Colorado. Jordan Zimmermannnn was given a 2-run lead before he even took the mound but gave it back immediately and is now down 4-2 in the 3rd.

Aren't you glad I told all you folks what a good defensive player Jonathan Schoop was? Two official errors tonight plus the dropped relay throw which wasn't scored as one but where they probably would have had a play at the plate had he not fumbled it.
