Boston at NY Mets
When: 1:10 PM ET, Sunday, August 30, 2015
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

The New York Mets enjoyed a record-setting offensive road trip but seem to have forgotten to bring their offense back home. The Mets will try to string some hits together and avoid a three-game sweep when they host the Boston Red Sox in the finale of an interleague series on Sunday.

New York scored 73 runs during a seven-game winning streak that closed out their road trip – a franchise record for runs in a seven-game stretch – but have managed five in dropping the first two games of the homestand to the basement-dwelling Red Sox. The sudden power drought comes after the team set a franchise records for home runs this month, but the Mets still own a comfortable 5 1/2-game lead over the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East. Boston has not lost any of its last five series as the players focus on impressing new team president Dave Dombrowski and locking down a spot on next season’s roster. Wade Miley is next up on the list looking to make his mark and will start opposite Mets rookie Noah Syndergaard on Sunday.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, TBS, NESN (Boston), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Wade Miley (10-10, 4.51 ERA) vs. Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (8-6, 3.19)

Miley continued an up-and-down campaign with a rough start at Chicago on Tuesday, when he was reached for five runs on 13 hits in 6 2/3 innings. The Louisiana native had surrendered a total of three runs and 10 hits over 14 1/3 innings in back-to-back wins in his two previous turns. Miley is looking for his first win against the Mets and is 0-1 with a 3.71 ERA in three career starts.

Syndergaard picked up the first road win of his career at Philadelphia on Tuesday, allowing four runs (two earned) and striking out nine over five innings. The Texas native, who turned 23 on Saturday, has 126 strikeouts and 28 walks in 115 2/3 innings in his rookie campaign. Syndergaard is 7-1 with a 1.82 ERA in nine home starts.

WALK-OFFS:
1. The Mets reportedly acquired RHP Addison Reed from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers on Saturday.
2. New York RHP Bartolo Colon made his first relief appearance since 2011 with a scoreless inning on Saturday.
3. Boston DH David Ortiz (heel) was out of the starting lineup on Saturday but doubled as a pinch hitter and plans to play Sunday.

In Noah I trust. Hopefully I will come to feel that way about Addison Reed.

Our seats are actually beneath the Pepsi Porch, meaning we got it made in the shade. 103. Watch for acrobatic home run catches.

Nice first for Thor. An infield single to Bogaerts who is stranded. Bookend K's.

Thor strikes with his mighty hammer. 2 out, 2 strike RBI single.

I'm a bit surprised there was no throw on Cuddy. NY hit the ball hard the whole inning.

1-0 Mets

You don't want to be in a position to get beat by the guy whose homers are announced in terms of which Hall-of-Famer he just passed on the all-time list.

That play where Syndergaard tapped the ball softly with the bat, offering himself up as an easy out so the runner can advance. That's an interesting play. What's it called?

You know, the funny thing is that Flores may be used as a defensive replacement today.

That grounds rule double bounced into our section, a few rows in front of us. May be the last time we see Robles in this sitch for awhile.

Ross, Jr., actually wearing "ROSS JR." (no comma) on the back of his uniform, as if his father plays for the team, too.

Re: IGT 8/30: BOS at NYM presented by Burrito & Barf

Great game.

That pop up was wacky stuff. I've seen spins on balls. Hooking drives and whatnot. Balls hit off the end of the bat, like that one. If that really did travel from a few rows into the stands to where it landed, like it was described on TV, that's the wickedest spin eveh! Glad we survived that to win and now it's only a footnote.

The splitter is also wicked.

You may think the Mets desperately need Cespedes day after day, but the 2015 Mets, they only need to use him as a defensive replacement.

Woke up from my post-run nap just in time to see Murph and Cuddy put the go ahead run on the board.

Re: IGT 8/30: BOS at NYM presented by Burrito & Barf

THoughTs on the Game!!!

1. The popup was crazy. I didn't even bother to look at Cuddyer because it looked like Tejada had the play all the way. Bad break for Robles in what might be his last "7th inning" chance for a while.

2. Good job by the Mets fans who easily chanted down scattered "Let's Go Red Sox" chants within seconds. There were a good amount of RSN citizens on the train and in the section and other than some chick in a pedroia jersey who wouldn't sit down I didn't see any problems. This wasn't MFY-BOS.

3. The Mets, similarly, were prompt in answering the Red Sox twice and that was good to see in a game where we didn't homer nearly as frequently as I would have liked considering we were seated in prime HR catching seats and had gloves ready.

4. Red Sox had a lot of guys out there with hefty uni numbers. I'm sorry but nobody named Mookie should be wearing No. 50 out there. wtf

5. WB Mason Toy Truck larger and better than last year's giveaway, even though it's pretty lame as giveaways go -- way too sponsor-y not at all Mets-y. Lunchpail also got a Lagares signed photo for going to his 4th Sunday game. Someone also handed us a Topps Bunt free download card but I don't know what that is, will check it out I guess. Lagares by the way had a rough day at the dish though a nice battle in his last turn.

7. Visited the "World's Fare" food area for the first time in a long while and can report its pretty sad in there. Only "world" choice anymore is sushi, though the Mama's of Corona makes a good sandwich ballpark wise. There's a bacon on a stick guy back in the corner but we didn't bother. Bacon is so cliche it's at Mets games now.

8. Uribe is fun to watch and we agreed we like his "walk-up" song whatever it is. Way better than Lagares' and Cuddy's in particular. Props to Recker for "The Stroke" (alternates with some Green Day song) and for the unexpected RBI single. Back to Uribe, LOL at how he wrestled that ball to the ground. Seemed to have been a Flores day... one of these RH hitting utilitymen should play 1B or a corner OF spot.

9. The singers of SSB and GBA each chewed the vocal scenery worse than the other. Not to go all 1968 World Series on you but to love this country is to sing about it in tune at least. Jeezuss.

10. Cuddyer looks like the best hitter on the team right now. Yay?

11. Bad job by the Mets for having 35,000 guests over to their place and showing them all yesterday's lineup at the entrance (Pail loves to see this). Make this someone's job. If not don't put it up. WTF.

12. Had Celebratory Slurpees (TM) afterward.

We noticed the same thing two weeks ago. As you said, WTF? They can't get someone to put up the proper lineup cards on Sunday mornings? How hard could that be?

Re: IGT 8/30: BOS at NYM presented by Burrito & Barf

So the score is 5-4 with runners at 1st and 3rd and the team is down to their last strike and the batter is named Mookie. I was so expecting a wild pitch/passed ball and then an error on a grounder to first. But I like the way this ended.
