Trouble looms for Schaefer voters?

Maybe.

FOX reports that the Mets, in search of a lefty reliever, have put in a waiver claim on SD penner Mark Rzepczynski [Zep-CHIN-Skee].
This doesn't mean he's Met property yet but it's possible that a deal will be worked out in the next couple days.

If he does join the club and pitches well enough to garner himself some shares of Schaefer, spelling nightmares will be breaking out all over the place and Grimm's magic spreadsheet may overheat.

I don't think he's a lefty. Just a Pole. Roobie thinks there's been additional claims and something will happen.

If I can retain how to spell Nieuwenhuis I think I'm ready for this guy. It'll be a Schaefer Challenge.

Re: Trouble looms for Schaefer voters?

Michael Baron reports that the Mets are in the process of obtaining Addison Reed.

From a Schaefer perspective, that would be a much nicer acquisition.

Re: Trouble looms for Schaefer voters?

Reed looks like a done deal pending a physical.

Re: Trouble looms for Schaefer voters?

Reed is one of those relievers who had a real good year or two as closer (w/ChiSox) but then quickly faded.

"Addison Reed" sounds like the secret identity of a 40s comic book hero.

"By day, Addison Reed is a rich playboy, but by night, he fights crime as Fireman!"

Spelling is only going to matter for the next 34 games.

I guess the Mets are going to try to make it difficult for me.

Fox is reporting that the Mets have successfully landed Reed. Of course, they're calling him "Addison Russell," so make of that what you will.

Re: Trouble looms for Schaefer voters?

I'm all confused. Repzyksk is a lefty, Reed is not.

Reportedly the Mets surrendering minor league pitchers Matt Koch and Miller Diaz for Reed. Koch (4-8, 3.46 at Bingo in 35 games/8 starts) reportedly a hard thrower but a longshot for the 40 this winter and thereford a potential a Rule 5er.

Miller Diaz is 5-12 as a starter for St. Lucie.

Reed is a failure as Dbags closer but recovered after a stint in AAA this summer. Arb eligible, likley to be a nontender from AZ standoint so garbage in/out for both sides looks like.

Rzepczynski

I learned that for nothing?

If we could handle Mientkiewicz, then we can deal with Rzepczynski.

Sounds like a girl's name to me. By day AR is a rich playgirl....

Re: Trouble looms for Schaefer voters?

Reed saved 29 in 2014. He is only 26. If his arm trouble is history it could work very well.

Re: Trouble looms for Schaefer voters?

I just realized that it's September 1, and Marc Rzepczynski is officially not happening.

Or, if it did happen, he'd be ineligible for the post-season. At least, he would be, barring some cheat-tastic maneuvering-type stuff.

I think they went with Reed instead because it's much easier to spell.

32 in 2014 actually, following seasons of 29 & 40 in 2012 & 2013
Problem was that his ERA was never that low (4.22 over those 3 years) and he blew his share of saves as well (18 blown while getting 101 saves).

All that said, he's worth a shot and did a good job tonight while saving Familia for a closer game.
I just think those peripheral numbers point out the danger in judging closers on their save number alone. But a 4.22 ERA & 1.22 WHiP (2012-14) are mediocre at best even if that puts you ahead of Parnell in the pecking order.
