Outfielder Action

Three teams with October hopes added outfielders just before the bell yesterday, all of them CLEARLY intimidated by the Mets' addition of Eric Young.

[list]Austin Jackson from the Mariners to the Cubs for a player to be named.

Jonny Gomes from whatever's left of the Braves to the Royals for minor league infielder Luis Valenzuela.

Alejandro De Aza (who went 0-7 with two walks against the Mets this weekend), from the Red Sox to the Giants for high A left-hander Luis Ysla, who doesn't seem shy about handing out the walks. De Aza earlier this season went from Baltimore to Boston. If the Giants bring him into the post-season, he could end up facing the Mets in three different uniforms in one season.[/list:u]
I'm assuming all three could have been claimed by the Mets. Maybe not De Aza, as the Giants now have a worse record than the Mets, but perhaps didn't at the time of the waivers.

The Royals hardly seem to be a team that needs help for September, and Gomes wouldn't be available to them in the postseason. Could this be an acquisition made with an eye toward 2016?

Royals have a chicken pox outbreak and Rios is sidelined for a while. They still care about getting best-overall record I think.

Yeah, that could be it. The Royals' lead over Toronto is the same 6.5 games that the Mets lead Washington by.

I believe all these deals were final before September 1, so all the principles are eligible for the post-season.
