A dash around the bases with the 25 Mets who have hit the franchise's 27 inside-the-park home runs here.

When it comes to inside-the-park home runs, the one that comes to mind for me is the one by Don Hahn. I remember wondering if such a thing was possible, and then it happened! Proof that it was indeed possible!

I saw one in person once, by Howard Johnson, and maybe one by Darryl Strawberry. They're always fun, but the one by Don Hahn will always be my favorite. I suspect that Ruben Tejada's will stick in my head because of the unique sight of an outfielder tumbling headfirst over the wall and disappearing.

Re: The Inside Story

The two big ones in my mind are Doug Flynn, because it happened for a poor hitter on a very weak offensive club somehow in the midst of a 10-run inning, and Marlon Anderson, because he blew a bubble rounding second.

Cavernous dimensions and artificial turf have been a big help through the years, making what Ruben did additionally impressive (and what befell Domonic Brown additionally frightening).

Re: The Inside Story

I've told this story before but I was there for the Mark Bradley one. I begged my dad to get front-row seats -- we NEVER did anything like that -- and he came through, we were in shallow right, not far from where Mike Marshall of the Dodgers dove for and missed a sinking ball near the line not all unlike Tejada's yesterday.

The crazy thing was, we were sitting behind a guy from Ireland who'd never seen a baseball game before and explaining the rules as things happened. He asked, can you hit a home run without it leaving the park? and we were like, yeah but that never happens.

I also had vague memories of the ITPHR at the Vet and with the article's help can confirm I was at the Tim Bogar Game.

Re: The Inside Story

I was at the Doug Flynn game. Since he was my fave Met it was super cool. Capping off the 10-run inning and what not.

I may be conflating (proper usage?) two different games and two different Flynn hits but I'm pretty sure that Flynn's inside-the-Parker came on a fireworks night and after he scored there was a 'LETS GO METS' sign in the outfield that had been made out of fireworks and it was set off.

Or did I dream that?

Re: The Inside Story

Conflating is a lot like confusing. In fact, the two terms are often conflated and confused.

The only ones I remember are Marlon's and Kaz's.

Not sure I've witnessed one live, but feel I must have.
