Yes, it's his first. (He was bench player of the month in April.)

My guess is that Bartolo's one relief inning moved him past deGrom.

You're right. He earned 0.68 points that game, and that was the difference.

Bartolo did something similar last year, talking Terry into skipping deGrom's last start of the season so that Colon could be Pitcher of the Year. Jeurys Familia, by the way, has totally left Brian Stokes in the dust.

Magnifique! Granderson looks very good as a player of the month, said some crank who at some point said there was something about him he couldn't quite warm to. I'm far warmer these days, which is an appropriate response to the hottest player from the third-hottest New York August on record. Skipping Harvey starts played havoc on a 0.33 ERA pitcher, but one has to admire Bartolo's tenacity. And congratulations, Michael Cuddyer, on finding your niche and earning a Grimm Classic.
