...Also Whoever's Playing the Dodgers

Go Rockies. Chris Rusin vs. Brett Anderson. L.A.'s record is a half-game better than that of the Mets, should that be of parochial interest.

Agree with this thread. The Nationals aren't a thing anymore.

Double agreed. The Mets are closer to finishing with the best record in baseball than the Nats are to finishing as the NL East winner.

Rox were solid as themselves last night, taking down the Dodgers in 16.

De La Rosa vs. Wood. And just as paper covers rock breaks scissors cuts paper, De La Rosa splinters Wood.

Buccos need to get it in gear. They send Liriano to the favorable Dodger Stadium mound; the home team has that guy who goes to Subway before he pitches (sure he does).

Anderson vs. Chacin at LA for those who can still multitask. Mets trail by only a game and a half.

Re: ...Also Whoever's Playing the Dodgers

Good job, Diamondbacks. Only a half-game back.

Home field advantage in the first round - in addition to just being beneficial to the Mets - also means that games 1 and 2 at Citi Field would be on a Friday and a Saturday. Just generally
more convenient all around.

Roxx up 7-1 over the Superbas. This could get good.

Mets sit in a tie with Dodgers currently after clinching this evening.

Nolan Arenado grand slam in the first helps our cause tremendously. Go Rockies!

Re: ...Also Whoever's Playing the Dodgers

Forget all other discussion.
The main question of fans everywhere is, "Which team will Fred Wilpon be rooting for in the playoff series?
OK, so there's a second one, "Why do the French love Jerry Lewis?"
But this is a baseball board, so the Wilpon question will have to suffice.

What's the tie breaker for home field in a playoff round, and would the Mets have it against LA? I see we went 4-3 against them this year, I'd think that'd be the first tie breaker to be used...

Yes, head-to-head record is the tie breaker. The Mets have the 4-3 advantage.

Dodgers lose on a Carlos Gonzalez walk-off home run in the ninth. Mets up by half a game in the race for home field advantage.

Another great job by the Colorado Rockies pounding the Dodgers 12-5 today. Dodgers' magic number remains at 2, but more importantly, the Mets have a 1.5 game lead over the Dodgers for home-field in the first round.

Dodgers now begin a 4 game series in San Francisco. They would clinch with a victory in any of those games so one would think the Giants would have extra motivation to help us out by, say, winning all four games.

I wish we could just stay in Cincinnati. They'd have the best record in the majors.

Dodgers now 3-10 in their last 13 games NOT started by Grienke or Kershaw

Want some more encouragement? Guess who's got the tiebreaker here, by virtue of taking the season series, 4-3.

And yet Cincinnati has a winning record (10-6 w/3 games remaining) vs the Pirates who we couldn't touch in either series against them including one in the second half when we, y'know, got good and stuff.
Go figure!

And speaking of Cincy, how'd you like to be them today? Coming off a four-game wipeout series vs the Mets, they had to fly to Washington for a day game make-up today, only to have to fly right back to Cincy for a series w/the Cubs starting on Tuesday. The fact that Scherzer only had them no-hit for 7-1/3 would have probably been the 'Under' bet going in.

What happens if any of these last 6 games get rained out? Do they just say, "Screw it" or do they do a doubleheader as home field is on the line?

Because the weather's looking pretty iffy for the next couple of days....

Re: ...Also Whoever's Playing the Dodgers

MLB has made it a point to get every regular season game in even if there's nothing on the line.
Multiple rain-outs this week could surely test that policy but, yeah, expect a DH or two (for the Mets or for anyone) if this week's weather start to screw up the best laid plans.

If Tuesday or Wednesday get rained out, then yes, I'd expect a doubleheader on Thursday. But if Thursday gets rained out, I don't expect that the Mets would be forced to return to Philadelphia for a makeup game next Monday.

It'd be such a farce for that game too, worse than awarding the Dodgers home field with a half game lead.

Of course, you'd start Harvey that day and then you'd have both deGrom and Harvey lined up to pitch in the NLDS on normal 4 days rest.

Re: ...Also Whoever's Playing the Dodgers

Robbie Erlin (1-1 6.30) takes on Zack Greinke (18.3 1.68). I'm sure neither of those records is indicative of the pitchers' respective abilities.

The important thing, from a history-preserving standpoint, is Greinke could throw a complete game shutout and his ERA still won't beat Doc's from 1985. As for home field, just win, Mets.
