Not that there's any room left in the dugout, but if the Mets are going to call up a September guest staffer as they have in past years (Oberkfell, Teufel, Backman twice), maybe it's time Frank Viola got a taste. He's kind of earned it, and the Mets suddenly have a lot of pitchers that he's seen more of than Warthan has. But maybe that's the sort of thing that second-, third-, and fourth-place Mets teams do.

That puzzled me too. Apparently it's erstwhile Savannah Sand Gnats manager José Leger, who has been an unpublicized September addition to the Mets coaching corps. Now that Jose Leger has had quicker impact than any coach in Mets history: appointed on a Tuesday, clinching on a Saturday, he won't be unpublicized for long.
