The Disease

I don't know about you guys but watching the Nats just implode lasy night was so 2008 Mets. The counterproductive bunt calls. The panic-y bullpen usage. Ineffectiveness like a disease. Fans calling for the removal of not 1 or 2 or 3 but all of the bullpen relievers.

It's weird but I felt more CAHNfident we'd win the thing after they went up 7-1 than before. It couldn't be more 2008 Mets if Drew Storen changed his name to Drew Schoeneweis.

Anyway, I almost -- almost -- feel for the tortured souls in this thread:

Re: The Disease

Change the names, and that reads just like the Mofo in 2008...

NatsGirl is rather homely... we have better looking admins here.

Almost, and then they make a NY wife-beating joke at the end of page 14.

Yikes. That was a fun read, and they make us look like a bunch of Pollyannas.

I'm embarrassed at how much I enjoyed reading that thread. That, plus this big erection I have that I'm swinging all around the office today.

The Nats are the disease... and the Mets are the cure.

Yeah, I've lurked there a bit. Passionate fans who are ready to explode. The shift from 'all right!' to 'WTF??' to 'I can't take this any more' to 'Matt Williams is an idiot' to 'I'm never watching this team again' strikes some familiar chords.

But boy, a fun read when you're on the winning side.

Couple of observations on that forum

- yes, it is like the old MoFo (and maybe the present one for all I know) in that it's like a race to see who can predict the next bad thing first in an attempt to set up the ultimate internet Win-Win: if it happens you can claim you 'called it' and if it doesn't you claim you're surprised and happy. Winner - Winner!!

- please don't ever let this place get to THAT level of all-purpose threads. I tend to think we overdo it here a wee bit but fortunately not to that degree. Every thread seems to be about 40 or more pages long and was probably started back in April. Now all Bryce Harper comments for the entire season go here, all 'Matt Williams Suxx' posts go in that thread, and yadda, yadda, blah, blah.
I don't know if the rules there dictate that it be like that or it just became that way organically, but Yuk!!

Now that's respect. Nat fans are so demoralized, they now fear the Mets. What a turnaround.
