I think from a self-interest perspective, we root for the Cubs in this game. Better potential NLCS matchup for the Mets than the Pirates.

Ripken seems so out of touch with the modern game.

Now I hope the Nationals hire him.

Jeez, name another guy who went from career mediocrity to something like this goddamn monster I'm watching on the mound right now. Even our own RA Dickey wasn't as untouchable as Arrieta's been.

Yikes, strike zone continues to bloat. That home plate ump wants to be there as badly as Keith during extra innings.

BAM!
That was probably their last best chance. Pirates didn't have to tie it up just then but they needed something.

If that was intentional, it was perfect. Warnings have been issued. Benches empty. Some squabbling going on. Settles down.

And Arreita steals 2nd! haha.

The implication is that the strategy will be mostly futile, considering they were expecting Arrieta to go at least six.

Looking at the mlb box score and the first line below the pitcher's stats reads:

Game scores: Arietta 82, Cole 42

WTF is this?

Edited 2 time(s), most recently on Oct 08 2015 07:56 AM

On Tuesday October 14, 2003, the Cubs had a 3 games to 2 lead and a 3-0 lead with one out in the 8th inning of Game 6 of the NLCS.
Then a pop-up near the stands wasn't caught by Moises Alou. [u:15gjygy3]12 pitches later[/u:15gjygy3] (20 if you include 2 IWs) 8 runs were scored and the Cubs went on to lose the game.
They lost the next night too and then the next six post-season games that they played. Tonight breaks the streak of eight consecutive playoff losses.

He'd probably only get one start in the Division Series, right? He won't be able to pitch until Game 3.
