The Mets in the NLDS
Benjamin Grimm Oct 07 2015 04:41 AM |
The Mets are about to make their fourth appearance in the National League Division Series. The first two times, in 1999 and 2000, they got there as a result of being the National League's Wild Card team. In 2006 and now, in 2015, they're in this series because they won the National League Eastern Division title.

In looking at this stuff, I noticed that John Maine started Game 1 of the 2006 NLDS. That seems a strange choice; the Mets clinched early enough to set their rotation. I don't recall what led to this happening. Did it have something to do with Orlando Hernandez's injury?

Yes, Hernandez was supposed to start game 1.

Hernandez had a late injury, so they had Maine substitute.

Hits allowed: Rick Reed, 11.

I guess I missed that category. I'll have to add it before Friday's game begins. Least hits allowed, I assume, will be a multiple-player tie for zero.

Duh@me. Alfonzo, the most unsung Met hero in team history.

Not in my 'sperience. Every other mook I run into on the social media tries to tell me that I Wright sucks and couldn't hold Alfonzo's jock.

Revised to include Hits Allowed category in the pitching section. (Thanks to Zvon for pointing out that this category had been missing.) |

They were such a shambles as that series began, and only the Dodgers playing an incredibly crappy series allowed us to get to the next round. It was a late afternoon game, and I was busy working, but was exiting the office onto 3rd Ave. as that crazy play when two guys got tagged out at home on the same play was called on the radio. Stunningly stupid by the Dodgers who'd further eff themselves over when Joe Beimel got drunk and sliced up his up his hand (lame initial cover story: he was drinking a glass of water in the hotel room when the vessel unexpectedly broke). Had he stuck around we'd have probably lost too.

Well then.

I wasn't planning on updating this mid-series, but what the heck.

Updated through Game 3. My apologies to the late Darryl Hamilton; I inadvertently left him off the "Games Played" list in previous posts.

My apologies to the late Darryl Hamilton. I inadvertently forgot he was late.

Final update for 2015. I hope to see several more "Mets in the NLDS" threads over the next few years!

Murphy hit a double yesterday. I think it was a triple at first and then changed to a double and error advancing him to third.

Yes, you're right. Thank you. I have the double in the database but missed it when updating the list of leaders. It's corrected now.
