Traded from the Mets

Edgy MD
Oct 07 2015 07:31 AM

A thread proposed by cooby.

You try to put your best spin on it, but the initial shock is raw. In a week or so, your new normal will have settled in, but right now, you've been sent packing, perhaps by the only organization you've ever known, and the sting is fresh. But there's a mic in your face. Try and say something civilized, you bitter ex-Met.

"I love playing in XXXXXX," said XXXXXX. "I got my first hit in XXXXXX, actually my first home run. I could see the passion from the fans. It's probably one of my favorite places to play, just to see the excitement from the fans and throughout the game. It was a fun place to go and play games. I'm excited to be part of the team now."

Mostly generic stuff. Name that ex-Met. And share your quotes from other recently relocated ex-Mets.

Re: Traded from the Mets

if you want to go from sublime to the ridiculous, this one springs to mind:

"“I will show him in the XXXXXX XXXXX when I strike out Ike Davis, and when I jump up and down on the mound [pointing to the sky] I’ll be like, ‘Hey that’s for you.'”

Dunno. Turk Wendell?

I got one.

''The Mets are in a position where they've got XXXXXX XXXXXX and XXXXXX XXXXXXX, and guys they paid money to get. I figured I'd be the one to go.''

He... conceded that he had ''voiced an opinion'' to his manager when taken out of some games.

''I thought they'd trade me because of that, too,'' he said. ''I was shocked it was to the XXXXX. I thought I'd go to the Tokyo Giants.''

Re: Traded from the Mets

Yeah, Mazz was my next guess. Mazzilli's trade came after the new regime was in place. Henderson was gone and Stearns was perpetually on the shelf, so he would have seen himself as something of a leftover in the Mookie-and-Hubie generation, and was just knuckle-headed enough to believe his New York bona fides (and not his .228 batting average) represented some sort of threat to the new management, not recognizing that his mustache undermined his 1981 season and derailed his rising career.

Here's a clue (kinda): the player is correct that he left 22 guys behind; JCL is incorrect that the Mets traded 3 guys at once.
