Mets All-Time Postseason Roster

How many players have played in postseason games for the Mets? At the moment, the count is 126. It will probably be quite a while before we get our 1,000 postseason Met.

But 150 is within reach.

I wonder how many players have been on postseason rosters without appearing in games.

How about this? It's sorted by game date by lineup position. It looks like the 100th postseason Met chronologically is the first alphabetically, Kurt Abbott.

I don't know who they are, but there have definitely been others. The Mets used only 22 players in the 1969 postseason, for example. They used the same number in 1973, 1986 (when there was only a 24-man roster), and 1988. They used 25 in 1999, 26 in 2000, and 24 in 2006. The 26 in 2000 would be because Derek Bell was injured in the NLDS and replaced (by whom?) for the NLCS. Was it Ring and Castro in 2006? Did the Mets have the same rosters in the NLDS and NLCS that year? I honestly don't remember. I do recall Hearn and Niemann in 1986. Mackey Sasser did play in the 1988 NLCS for the Mets.

I think it was Bubba Trammell that replaced Bell for the 2000 NLCS. Castro was the backup catcher in 2006 but never played. Royce Ring was on the roster for the division series only; was replaced by Anderson Hernandez for the LCS.

That's good stuff. It shouldn't be too hard to sort out from here.

Cal Koonce, Jack Dilauro, and Bobby Pfeil were on the 1969 team in the postseason, but didn't play.

Twelve Mets made their franchise post-season debut last night. Therefore, counting David Wright, 13 of the 25 Mets have seen postseason action already.

No, he replaced Royce Ring

That's a bit freaky, especially seeing as how Clendenon is long talked about being the guy who got them there and that Swoboda had played pretty much full time down the stretch during August & September (30 of his 52 RBIs that year came after Aug 1). But the Braves threw a bunch of right-handers at us and Gil loved him some platooning. Plus there wasn't a lot of PH-ing or relieving: just because your staff gives up 15 runs in 3 games is no reason to use more than three guys out of the pen during the series (McGraw, Ryan, and Taylor twice).
1) Tommie Agee: 10/4/1969 2) Wayne Garrett: 10/4/1969 3) Cleon Jones: 10/4/1969 4) Tom Seaver: 10/4/1969 5) Jerry Grote: 10/4/1969 6) Ed Kranepool: 10/4/1969 7) Ken Boswell: 10/4/1969 8) Bud Harrelson: 10/4/1969 9) Art Shamsky: 10/4/1969 10) Al Weis: 10/4/1969 11) J. (Game 1, 9th inning, pr Teddy Martinez on 1st, Mets down 2-1). In the rearview that seems a bit nutty (no offense meant to the late JB) but don't remember if it was also viewed that way at the time. Maybe it was a concession to Rusty's shoulder. 1986-10-08 Lenny Dykstra 1986-10-08 Wally Backman 1986-10-08 Keith Hernandez 1986-10-08 Gary Carter 1986-10-08 Darryl Strawberry 1986-10-08 Mookie Wilson 1986-10-08 Ray Knight 1986-10-08 Jesse Orosco 1986-10-08 Rafael Santana 1986-10-08 Lee Mazzilli 1986-10-08 Dwight Gooden 1986-10-08 Kevin Elster 1986-10-08 Danny Heep 1986-10-09 Bob Ojeda 1986-10-11 Kevin Mitchell 1986-10-11 Tim Teufel 1986-10-11 Rick Aguilera 1986-10-11 Ron Darling 1986-10-12 Doug Sisk 1986-10-12 Sid Fernandez 1986-10-12 Howard Johnson 1986-10-12 Roger McDowell 1988-10-04 Randy Myers 1988-10-04 Gregg Jefferies 1988-10-04 Kevin McReynolds 1988-10-05 Terry Leach 1988-10-05 David Cone 1988-10-05 Mackey Sasser 1988-10-08 Dave Magadan 1999-10-05 Rickey Henderson 1999-10-05 Armando Benitez 1999-10-05 Edgardo Alfonzo 1999-10-05 John Olerud 1999-10-05 Mike Piazza 1999-10-05 Darryl Hamilton 1999-10-05 Turk Wendell 1999-10-05 Benny Agbayani 1999-10-05 Robin Ventura 1999-10-05 Roger Cedeño 1999-10-05 Dennis Cook 1999-10-05 Shawon Dunston 1999-10-05 Rey Ordóñez 1999-10-05 Masato Yoshii 1999-10-05 Melvin Mora 1999-10-06 John Franco 1999-10-06 Bobby Bonilla 1999-10-06 Todd Pratt 1999-10-06 Pat Mahomes 1999-10-06 Octavio Dotel 1999-10-06 Kenny Rogers 1999-10-08 Orel Hershiser 1999-10-08 Rick Reed 1999-10-09 Matt Franco 1999-10-09 Al Leiter 2000-10-04 Joe McEwing 2000-10-04 Rick White 2000-10-04 Lenny Harris 2000-10-04 Jay Payton 2000-10-04 Todd Zeile 2000-10-04 Derek Bell 2000-10-04 Glendon Rusch 2000-10-04 Mike Bordick 2000-10-04 Timo Perez 2000-10-04 Mike Hampton 2000-10-07 Kurt Abbott 2000-10-08 Bobby Jones 2000-10-11 Bubba Trammell 2006-10-04 José Reyes 2006-10-04 Paul Lo Duca 2006-10-04 Carlos Beltran 2006-10-04 Carlos Delgado 2006-10-04 David Wright 2006-10-04 Billy Wagner 2006-10-04 Cliff Floyd 2006-10-04 Aaron Heilman 2006-10-04 Shawn Green 2006-10-04 José Valentin 2006-10-04 John Maine 2006-10-04 Michael Tucker 2006-10-04 Chad Bradford 2006-10-04 Guillermo Mota 2006-10-04 Pedro Feliciano 2006-10-04 Endy Chavez 2006-10-05 Tom Glavine 2006-10-05 Julio Franco 2006-10-07 Chris Woodward 2006-10-07 Darren Oliver 2006-10-07 Steve Trachsel 2006-10-13 Roberto Hernandez 2006-10-13 Anderson Hernandez 2006-10-15 Oliver Perez
127) Curtis Granderson: 10/9/2015 128) Yoenis Cespedes: 10/9/2015 129) Daniel Murphy: 10/9/2015 130) Travis d'Arnaud: 10/9/2015 131) Lucas Duda: 10/9/2015 132) Michael Cuddyer: 10/9/2015 133) Ruben Tejada: 10/9/2015 134) Jacob deGrom: 10/9/2015 135) Juan Lagares: 10/9/2015 136) Tyler Clippard: 10/9/2015 137) Jeurys Familia: 10/9/2015 138) Kelly Johnson: 10/9/2015 [/list:u]
